Modern day Black Nighthawk
« on: December 13, 2005, 04:34:40 AM »
I have a customer that is looking for a ball with the core shape and reaction similar to the original Black Nighthawk.  I have my own preferences but I remember reading a post a couple of months back in which someone had made a positive comparison.

If you can find one, the Havoc, which has been discontinued, but you can still find, has the exact same core with a slightly stronger cover.

The Havoc has the same core as the original Nighthawk.  Some say it has the same exact Superflex cover making it an exact duplicate, some say it is an updated version, perhaps "enhanced" Superflex.  I got very lucky and picked up a NIB Havoc a few days ago for a great price; taking it over to be drilled sometime this week.  Last I saw, Brickguy221 still had one for sale with good specs for a good price.

According to Del Warren, the Havoc core is a modified Nighthawk core.  They changed the densities of it before using it!

personally, the havoc is no where near the nighthawk. I drilled 3 havocs complety different looking to find the same ball as my nighthawk, and couldn't. Nothing to compare it to in my opinion.

How would you say it's different Great One?  One of the top amateurs in the southeast is on Track's staff; he loves the Nighthawk and claims the Havoc is the exact same ball.  Of course he's just throwing the ball and had nothing to do with making it, but I trust his judgement on how the ball rolls and hits.

hskrntx, any idea on how they changed the densities?  I found the numbers on the Havoc (2.50, 0.043), but wasn't able to find any on the Nighthawk.

i had the first havoc layed out as i did my nighthawk

By the way, shined up the havoc, as my nighthawk was shiny, and the havoc started up a good, 5-8 feet sooner, and had no where near the angle of the nighthawk. My havoc also lacked the hit that the nighthawk did. The havoc had its moments, but for me was just no where near the nighthawk.

Greatone you are right on the money. The havoc is not the same look as the original Nighthawk. The Nighthawk is very clean through the front and very very angular explosive off of the breakpoint. I still to this day have not found ANYTHING that gives me the same look as the Nighthawk. This would also be the reason I currently have 5 drilled 3 in my everyday arsenal and 2 NIB just waiting for the perfect day. All I can say for everyone that wants a Nighthawk is go to AMF300.com then go to message forums and there is a post about the Nighthawk and express your demand for this ball, maybe just maybe they will bring it back. They have nothing to loose.

The closest reaction I've found that mimmicks the nighthawk was the Original X-Factor.  Today's equivalent in reaction would be an angular pearl reactive.
