Titan, VP2 or Valor P Tour....
« on: February 27, 2005, 05:59:55 AM »
Trying to look at the RG and differential comparisons to get a good look at what I want to replace my Storm Eraser Pearl Particle (2.539 RG, .050 diff). The Titan looks like the closest match up to the EPP (2.47 RG, .041 diff) but other people in my pro shop and on this board have put in recommendations for the VP2 or the Valor P Tour. I guess what I'm looking for in this ball would be a medium oiler that can handle carrydown, probably a skid/snap type of reaction when I need that look on the lanes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated- my stats and other equipment are in my profile...

Matt

the valor p tour isn't very aggressive and the Titan is reactive.
I would have to recommend the VP2 to replace the EPP. It has a strong skid/snap if drilled right, and since it's particle, it is good for carrydown.

VP2 has the cover for some carry down but is not a skid-snap core, it is very smooth. The Titan will react more. It is pearl resin not pearl particle the the EPP though. The velocity is the Skip-Snap ball that is pearl particle in the AMF lineup.

Matt,

Do you want to stick with AMF?

Charlest: I guess I want to try some different balls outside of my normal Storm and Track lines. AMF is a company that not many people throw up my way and I feel if I can find a ball in the medium with carrydown range, probably a particle pearl, that would be a good match up to replace my Eraser Pearl Particle. I also like the Barrage from Dynothane, but I'm looking to see if I can find an AMF piece that will fit into my needs...and many are saying the VP2 may be the ticket, others are saying the Velocity.

I believe the Velocity is stronger than the EPP; I think the VP2 is the ball closer to the EPP in overall ability. There may be some balls from other companies that mnay be closer in overall reactions to the EPP; the Dyno-Thane Vendetta Particle PEarl comes to mind, as well as a polished Ebonite Game Time. Not sure how (weak) you'd have to drill the Velocity to make it emulate the abilities of the EPP.

Velocity is stronger and smoother.
My Velocity is drilled pin below bridge (appr. 5 inches from PAP) and MB in strong position, polished with Storm Xtra Shine. No skid-snap here.
Perhaps pin above bridge with a pin placement around 5-1/2 would do it. I hope Pat Nolan can chime in to suggest more specificly.

I suggest Depth Charge with pin up, length drilling. For me Depth Charge is touch stronger than EPP but very close. You may need to adjust the cover.

I hear great things about Titan and I'd like to try one. However I don't think it can handle carry down as good as Velocity, Depth Charge or EPP..

Hope this helps,

Burak,

There are two reasons I didn't recommend the Depth Charge, although it is a partice pearl.
1. The particle load os 2% vs the EPP's 1%; that's 100% more particles.
2. The RG of the DC is MUCH lower than the Eraser's, roughly 2.46 vs 2.54. That is a large difference.

Due to those fairly significant differences, I did not feel comfortable recommending the DC as a replacement for the EPP.

charlest,

I agree. As I wrote, it is touch stronger and handles more oil for me. However not that significant as the numbers indicate. At least for me. I suggested it because the reaction characteristics are similar if drilled accordingly.
Ofcourse Depth Charge I compare was drilled 5-1/2 from PAP and hit with Storm Step3. Perhaps I should have mentioned it. But again that's why I wrote "you may need to adjust the cover".

Sorry for the incomplete post.

No need to be sorry. I'm no final authority. I was just explaining my thought processes, in this matter.

I wasn't trying to get into the drilling and surface preparations to make balls closer or further apart. I think there may be several other balls that can be made very close to the EPP. I think it may be too easy to confuse anyone by starting that. However, your personal experience with the two mean a lot, as always.

I use my Titan when there is carry down!?  Of course, I had to sand it down and then polish it up to a lower level that out of the box as suggested in another post!  But the way I have mine drilled, it reads early and doesn't do as much of it's "turning" on the backend, thus the carry down doesn't affect it as much.

Have yet to drill my VP2 yet, trying to figure out how by reading these posts!  Keep the good info coming guys!
