Title: WOW! Maximum Velocity CRACKED!
Post by: JOE FALCO on May 15, 2006, 02:58:34 AM: Over the years I've owned MANY BOWLING BALLS! At the present time I have three EBONITE RACKS in my office FULL of balls.

I have 9 AMF balls. Naturally I use most of the balls RARELY. With Summer leagues starting I like to use some of the balls I've had sitting on the shelf.

Today I was preparing for league and thought I'd clean off the balls I wanted to try today. Pulled the MAX VELOCITY off the shelf and found a CRACK completely around the ball, clear down to the core! I have NEVER had this experience in the 50 years involved in bowling!

I had purchased this ball USED from FORKEL and had it redrilled and used it two years ago at RENO. It didn't work too well and put it away never using it again. It was only two months ago I acquired a NEW RACK and handled all of the balls noting all of them were in excellent shape.

Don't think I can do a thing about the ball but I would like to let AMF know about it. How do I go about reporting it?

Post by: tenpin on May 15, 2006, 02:21:08 PM: The only thing I could suggest if you want to let them know is go to AMF300.com and click on contact us and contact customer service. Unfortunately you have two things against you for warranty. The ball was probably purchased more than 1 year ago and it has been plugged and redrilled.

Don't expect to get anything for the ball .. my thing was to advise AMF what happened .. perhaps they can learn something from the SERIAL NUMBER and find out if there is a way to correct the situation in the future! Post by: JOE FALCO on May 16, 2006, 10:15:54 AM: Take 2 balls with me to league .. usually decide which balls by prior experience with the league! Most of the balls collect dust. In the case of the MAX VELOCITY .. after purchase about two years ago I had it drilled to fit .. took it to RENO and didn't like the reaction. It went on the shelf and moved occasionally from one rack to another. Last time I handled it was (+/-) 3 months ago and it was in good shape.

Yesterday I was going to bowl with the ball and it had a CRACK completely around the ball. I was really shocked .. first experience I've had with a ball cracking. Now I know what people are talking about .. hard to believe until you see it yourself!

Post by: hskrntx on May 17, 2006, 10:17:41 AM: You've been VERY lucky if you've never seen a cracked ball! The majority I've dealt with were Ebonite! I've had two AMF ball crack like that in the last 18 months - both were replaced by AMF, at no charge to me! I've had to fight to get other companies to replace theirs!

My name is Paul Figliomeni I am the Director of Sales and Marketing for AMF300. I am sorry to hear that your Max Velocity cracked. Some times ball due crack and it never is a pleasant experience for the customer. We always try to stand behind our products. I understand the ball was plugged this usually voids the warrantee but it still should not crack all the way around the ball like that regardless if it was plugged. Please send me a digital photo of the cracked ball along with the serial # and mailing address and i will send you a new ball. Unfortunately we no longer have Max Velocity in our line so please pick another ball. My e mail is paulf@amf300.com.

For many years I've been talking about how good the AMF balls are, now it's quite obvious how good the AMF COMPANY is! This effort, no matter where it goes, pushes me over the TOP! Everyone I know will hear about the length AMF will go to satisfy a customer. When you have a company that will stand behind it's products .. what more can you ask?

Post by: Strider on May 21, 2006, 06:43:39 PM: It's good to know Mr. Figliomeni still works for AMF. He was able to locate a NIB Nighthawk M2 for me about 2 years ago. They had been out of production for quite a while. Good price and great service.

I will sum it all up by saying UNTIL YOU DEAL WITH AMF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS! Most companies try to SHAKE YOU OFF WHEN YOU HAVE PROBLEMS I found that AMF EMBRACES YOU!

There is good customer service, then there is doing things for the customer that go above and beyond what is expected, and in this situation AMF has come through very impressively and made a very positive impression on many here. I just got my first AMF in Corpus Christi, (Radar), and love it, and this only shows the company is just as good as the products they're making. I have a similar situation with a Hammer Big Blue Pearl, over a year old, thumb slug in, and the ball no longer in production, the ball is at the distributor waiting for a Hammer rep to come and inspect the ball and see whether it's going to be replaced or not. They aren't obligated to replace it with a current release by any stretch, but sometimes creating a positive customer experience more than pays for itself to the company, looking forward to more AMF purchases in the future.

Post by: mrbowlingnut on June 15, 2006, 12:15:05 AM: Also Amf replaced a ball that was out of production for over a year i bought that cracked on the press being drilled, i was able to choose whatever ball i wanted. So this is not special treatment as some might think by amf this is what they do too take care of there customers.

Post by: JOE FALCO on June 15, 2006, 08:00:29 AM: MR NUT .. very good guess! Paul DID send me the LOCK! I had it for a while now .. went on vacation and didn't have it drilled till I returned. Had the ball drilled by a local driller instead of the person that had been caring for my gear the last three years! Think the ball was drilled to go LONG .. had difficulty with it for the first couple of games. Yesterday I finally realized where to throw the ball and it all came together.

The ball has more of a JUMP at the pins then my other balls .. most likely due to the drilling. Not very good at explaing drilling .. best I can do is define what is obvious ..pin is about a 1/4 inch above the ring finger and about 1/2 inch to the right of the same finger.There is a weight hole (about a 1 inch hole .. 4 inches to the right of the center of my grip. The ball splatters pins like I've come to expect from AMF equipment!

Paul did a fantastic thing here that I will LONG remember. He took it upon himself to get to me .. if anyone has had an experience like this you will understand .. I think it was just FANTASTIC. I was an AMF believer before .. this incident absolutely convinces me that you can't beat the company.
