Bull Whip
« on: January 29, 2006, 01:56:38 PM »
I need some help.  I found a used bull whip in the back of the bowling alley.  I was just wondering what type of reaction I would get from the ball. My axis is 4 15/16 and 3/16.  I'm a cranker and I have ave speed.  I was also thinking of putting the pin in the center of the grip and then swinging the the cg out.  What do you guy think.  Thank to all responses.

The Bull Whip came out in 1997 I believe.  It stood at that time, and I believe remains to this day the lowest RG ball ever made, with a low RG axis rating of 2.431.  I don't know the differential, but it must be high.  I have two Bull Whips and got over 6 inches of flare out of both of them.  AMF advertised it with a quote from Dick Weber saying that it was the best ball AMF ever made.  Bear in mind, of course, that Dick Weber was their long-time staffer.

I found the Bull Whip to be an excellent ball and it remains one of my all-time favorites.  It had a very smooth, controllable arc, but seemed to carry extremely well--making a somewhat distinctive cracking sound when it hit the pins.  BTM mentioned in their review that it seemed to have a real knack for carrying the ten pin, and that was true in my experience.

I would imagine that on today's lane conditions, it would be most appropriately used on a light condition.  You indicate that you are a cranker with average speed.  I do not feel exceptionally well qualified to offer a bowler of that description drilling advice.  Hopefully an experienced driller will respond.

I know that if you want to sell or trade it, I'm a taker!  Had one (actually a blem) when I threw 16, and haven't been able to find a good shape 15!  Awsome ball, was clean through the heads and then turned and hit HARD!
