Shredder Review
« on: October 02, 2010, 12:46:52 PM »
I drilled my Shredder 5 ¼ x 4 ½ looking for a big move on the backend.  That is exactly what I got.

My first time out with this ball was on new Brunswick Pro Lane on the USBC White pattern.  My first few shots I was surprised at how much this ball flared, and how much it wanted to hook in the back end.  The roll of this ball is very reminiscent of a Cell Pearl.  This ball has a big strong core,  and a cover that is very responsive to dry.

Since I was on a pretty high volume pattern, on a tight lane surface I did have to make sure I got this ball to the dry part of the lane and not overthrow it.  But as long as I did this ball carried everything.  This ball is probably not the best choice for a fresh pattern unless you are bowling on a high friction surface.

I was also able to get some games on this ball on some high friction HPL lanes, on a typical house shot with some very nice results.  Due to the higher friction surface I was able to go ahead and just throw this ball at the friction and let it rip back.  Again this ball isn’t meant for a ton of oil, but if you have a little bit of friction to throw this ball at it can create some amazing angle and great pin carry.

Eric, how would you compare this to the Break Point Pearl?

Tex,

For me the Break Point Pearl was longer, and then much stronger off the friction, but then would give me a flip-set type reaction.  The Break Point Pearl was super skid flip for me, where the Shredder is much more continuous after it hits friction, and not as flippy.

Also the Shredder flares a lot more then my Break Point Pearl did.  The Break Point Pearl was a very unique and special ball for me, and I haven't thrown anything else that really reminds me of it.

Hope this helps.

Drilled: 5 x 4.5

I've utilized this ball on various House Shot patterns where I've needed length with recovery.  I've also used this ball on USBC White and Kegel Route 66.  What I like about this piece is that its symmetrical which gives it more continuation on the backend and a more defined ball motion.

The ball was recommended by Eric Thomas as an alternative to a Hammer Hot Sauce and Visionary G-3.  The only difference I noticed is the Shredder  picked up a couple feet sooner (but can alter hand position to create desired length) and had a similar but slightly stronger ball motion on the backend.

If I compared it to my Break Point Pearl as questioned by Tex in a previous post, I would have to agree with E_V that my Break Point Pearl is a few feet longer, and tends to not be as continuous on the backend because it is a asymmetrical ball.

Both the BPP and the Shredder have their place, but when I can get left and wheel on a pattern the Shredder is the ultimate choice.  Its very easy to manipulate the ball to make it do what I want it to through the front part of the lane.  The pin carry is excellent with this piece and I would have to agree with E_V's post as well with the description of reaction.

All Global followers should find a place for this in their bag.  Thanks 900 Global and Eric Thomas for recommending such a wonderful ball.
