Etonic shoes - Good? Bad?
« on: September 13, 2004, 05:46:12 AM »
I went ahead and ordered a pair of the Etonic ESL Classics to replace my Dexter's when they finally fall apart and was wondering what experiences others have had so far. Does it make any difference in terms of how you slide since the heel on the shoe is raised (not flat like Dexter's)? Also, has anybody tested them on different approach surfaces? If so, do they perform differently on synthetics compared to how they slide on wood?

Fill me in guys, I need some reassurance that I made a good purchase!

Jeff

I have a pair of ESL Classics in black that I am now using.  I like them a lot.  Very comfortable.  The slide as far as the raised heal will make a difference.  I can not tell you about the slide sole characteristics because it has never come in contact directly with the floor.  I can tell you that you will notice things about the shoe that you may like. They have great arch support and the insides of the shoes are both different from each other.  The slide foot has a different make up internally from the power foot. Quality is good and they run a little small which was good for me.  Size 7 = size 6 1/2 Lind's Classics.

Thanks so much for the info, I actually picked mine up after league last night but did not get a chance to test them as I had to go to work as soon as I finished my set. I chatted with a few league bowlers who were using their Etonics last night and they all seem to agree that you need to slide with your foot perfectly flat as pressing on the ball/toe of the foot makes the shoe stick and dig into the approach more. I'll judge for myself this weekend, but I'm willing to bet that the problem more than likely lays in our house's notoriously dirty approaches.

Just to update on how the shoes are working for me, in case anybody is interested:

I bowled a few games yesterday to break in my shoes and once I did I had no problems with slide at all. They are the most comfortable bowling shoes I have ever worn, as they feel pretty much like my street shoes that I wear, not like typical bowling shoes at all.

They do have a considerable breaking in period, so I wouldn't recommend wearing them for the first time in leagues or tournaments. After you get them broken in they are awesome.

So, in short, Etonic's are sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
Feel free to ask me any q's you may have about the shoes.
