3G Shoes sole question
« on: November 30, 2020, 01:06:46 PM »
I just got my first pair of 3 G shoes and the soles are too wide and Short for the opening. My question are the supposed to fit inside opening or lay on top. I truly don't understand this design, why not do what every other manufacturer does and do the whole thing.

Update: Contacted 3G and Brand Manager is shipping me out 3 sheets so I can cut my own slides, 3G customers service A+.

first:  yes the sole should fit inside of the opening and if cut correctly, should fill the hole perfectly.

second:  I believe the reason that 3G shoes are set up the way they are is because the other companies (Dexter??) has the other systems patented and 3G does not have a licensing agreement to use those patents.

un-solicited tip:  Dexter soles for the SST 8s  can be cut to fit the 3G shoes.  I personally use the saw tooth that combines the dexter S8 and S10

So is this normal for 3G to send out a set of soles that are miscut? How could Dexter design be patented when KR uses same design. So I need to purchase a new set which will cost me as much as I paid for the shoes since the where non returnable. Not a good first impression of 3G

Just like Dexter soles need to be trimmed, the 3G soles need to be cut to fit the opening on the bottom of the shoe.  Different size shoes have different size openings.  The soles are made to one size to reduce the amount of manufacturing and number of skus needed.

If the ones you received are too short, whoever you purchased them from should be able to work with you to take back the short ones and get replacements that you can properly cut to fit.

Should not have to cut to fit on new shoes, just replacement soles. Dexter soles on new shoes are cut to fit already. Shoes were purchased on close out from Buddies (no returns or exchanges)

Buddies has excellent customer service.  Despite the closeout status, if you called them or sent them an email with a photo I am sure they would at least work with you and perhaps even send you a replacement sole.  I can't imagine they would do nothing.

When you buy replacement soles for 3G shoes, they actually come square and you need to trim them to fit.

Agree Buddies is the best, been having my balls drilled and purchased from them for years. I am not going to bother them with this issue, I emailed 3G directly. But stop defending 3G I understand how replacement soles from them come, but new shoes shouldn't need cut to fit.

Were they brand new or were they returned stock from a previous customer?  Some sites will allow you to exchange for another size if the first fit was wrong.

I am not defending 3G.  Stuff happens during manufacturing and packing.  I have seen bad Dexters, bad 3G's, and bad KR's.

I literally had Dexter tell me that their "The 9" line of shoes were not intended to be durable after I had one fall apart after less than 2 years.  They refused any kind of warranty claim, but did offer to sell me a replacement pair at their cost.  I bought a different model of Dexters on closeout, and they came with the wrong length shoe laces.  I emailed Dexter and they sent me a new set of laces that were the correct length.

Quality control these days across multiple industries tends to be non-existent.  Sometimes it takes some work to get things corrected, even with brand new products.  It is disappointing and frustrating and not an issue you should be having, but the issue you are having is an easy fix even if 3G won't resolve it.  If you saved $50-$70 on the shoes, and have to buy a $20 sole to fix the issue, you are still coming out ahead.

if a design is patented; you can pay the patent holder to use it.  Nobody copied the Dexter design for many years; Linds used the DOTs, 3G used the trim piece, etc.

The 3G design has been their design since the Tour Ultra was introduced when the company was know as Dynozoos.

as for how other brands use the Dexter design now: I would just assume there is either an agreement in place, a partnership or a merger that allowed it.
