3g tour ultra cleated sole

for those of you that use the cleated sole, how do you have it set up? i have tried a few different combinations but they all seem to stick a lot. i have yet to try all teflon cleats, but i am starting to shink that my be the only way i could get any decent amount of slide.

The Orange colored cleated (round holes for the inserts) is pretty far down the slide scale (#6, with #1 being the slipperiest) by itself. SO you kind of have to get used to it. You can use one of the more slippery soles and cut the holes in it using the orange one as a traceable pattern. Use a razor blade or an Exacto knife to cut the holes out.I tried the #4, deerskin by itself as a cleated sole and found it far too slippery. So I stick with the #6, called orange backskin.
 
I use my own teflon cleats. I purchased teflon discs from ebay and just stick them to Velcro cut to the same size to make the cleats. I found this way best because the dirt from the floors on the settee areas constantly embed tiny pebbles and dirt into the teflon discs and make them rough. I have 3 different degrees of friction from the teflon discs. And, yes, I use my own teflon discs in all 7 posiitons.

thanks, you ever tried using a dexter sole, is it the same thickness? or would it stick out beyond the sewn on border of the shoe? i know it'd have to be trimmed quite a bit because of that border.

I actually use the cleated sole when I have a sticky approach. I use a combination of teflon and felt discs. The teflon are very slick..........

Like Charlest, I make my own teflon cleats.  I don't remember exactly how many I use, but I think it is five of the teflons with two others (my shoes are in the locker so I can't check).  I thought that the teflon cleats that come with the shoes are a bit on the flimsy side so I think making your own is the way to go.  As Charlest said, they tend to pick up dirt off the approaches or floor so they have to be replaced every so often.
 
Mix and match teflon cleats with some of the others to find the correct slide for you on your center's approaches.

I'm not sure they use the same combination of the velckro on the sole. I've never even used the full soles on the Tour Ultras. I've always used the cleated sole, maybe because I came from Linds EXXXtras which also used cleats.

Even the whole soles from 3G use one large rectangular sole for all sizes. You trim them to size.
Here's Buddies web page for them: Buddies  3G backskin sole (Buddies is a little expensive for these soles.) It's just to show you. The ones that come with the shoe are cut to size.

The Dexter soles are very wide and short versus the sole outline on the 3G....

Like MI 2 AZ, I make mine from teflon discs I buy on Ebay and from industrial velcro I buy from Home Depot or Lowe's.I sand one side of the disc and just press it to the velcro. After 24 hours, it is strong.
 
I get them from a seller called "rubberman". He sells neoprene and teflon. Here's one auction selling close to the size I bought from him:
You  can ask him for the exact size you want. I think I use either 1 3/16" or 1 7/32' discs in diameter, 1/16" thick.
