Title: Ankle Protection
Post by: se7en on August 21, 2006, 05:02:59 AM
I'm sure alot of bowlers have grazed their ankle on more than one occasion. At a pro-am I was at last week, I had an ill-fitted ball drop off my hand and smash the bone pretty good. Enough to send it directly into the gutter.

I was doing some research on ankle protection, as my release is very close to my ankle, and the best thing I could find was:

http://www.supportsusa.com/ankle/aa/activeankle.htm

Anyone ever hear or see any products that wouldn't impose on the approach of a bowler, and add protection for the inside portion of the ankle?

You must be VERY good....Only the best bowlers are consistently tight to their ankle!

I remember the very very very good...Storm Devincent hitting that ankle years ago on the PBA TV show.  Since then I always see him with a high ankle slide shoe.
I think linds.

How are you going to keep bowling with your ankle bone lying in the gutter?

LL is right, traditionally high-top bowling shoes were the answer to wacking your ankle.

i can vouch for the pain! i get atleast 1 good "blunt force trauma" every month or so, it happens when im super loose, like more than normal, like if i have to bowl early in th emorning or late at nite and im tired. im usually getting the ball off my hand good, but then BAM! near tears and usually a gutter or washout...

I have to agree. The more I thought about it, being so close to hitting it already, anything protruding outward would increase the amount of times I'd nick it with the ball. A little bit of shoe leather wouldn't seem too obtrusive.

How bout an ace bandage?  wouldn't that work just as well as a piece of shoe?  in fact i think you would get more padding from the ace bandage then you would the shoe leather, and it might even stick out less then the shoe.  Just my thought.

I paired with Mr Devincent for a couple of games at a tournament in Sweden last year. Yes it is Linds.. I was surprised to see how "high" they were.. I think they were grey.. Pretty Kool actually..
