Title: best, most compact 4 or 6 ball roller?
Post by: chitown on February 14, 2008, 06:04:06 AM
Who makes the most compact 4 ball or 6 ball roller.  I need to get a roller for tourney's.  I was thinking of getting a compact 4 ball roller and just using a 2 ball tote to place on top.

I currently use two 3-ball tote rollers and carry a back pack for my shoes and accessories but for walking around an alley at a tourney it's easier to use a single 4 or 6 ball roller and only have one handle to pull.

Totes are much easier to use, have you seen someone try to wheel those "tractors" around a bowling center? 6 ball bags are cumbersome and will be a hindrance more than a luxury. Disregard this if you have a bad back or something of that ilk.

I personally like the bags with the 3-4-5 option myself.  They are basically the same length and width of the 3 ball roller, making them easier to cart around during tournaments, and obviously they carry more equipment.

If you are set on a 4 or 6 ball...go with the 4...and use an extra 2 ball tote.

Definitely forget a six roller. Go with a 3-4-5 option style. I have an in-line Hammer four with an add-a-bag and love it. Otherwise, I use a 2 ball tote and the in-line for 6 or 7.

I've seen Wiseman use two in-line three ball rollers.

I use a Storm 4 Ball Roller, the one that the top comes off of the bottom.  You can take the top off so that it can fit in the are easier, and it's easier to lift 2 balls than 4.  It also has 3 wheels and seems to be pretty durable and have not have any problems what so ever with it.

I have a 6 ball roller and 3-4-5 option bag which you just put a brunswick joey on top of the bag to carry the 5 th ball.

The inline 5 ball roller is very solid if you buy the ebonite grand tour or track bag, hardly any harder to move around than when only 3 balls are in it.

My 6 ball roller is heavy and the wheels wear out from curbs and stuff like

that.

I have used a six ball roller, and trust me it is a big hassle!  I have a 4 ball roller from Ebonite that I use and it is great, and also has enough storage for my shoes etc. It has the three ball and then the fourth ball is on top next to the shoes compartment.http://www.ebonite.com/products/detail.php?PRKey=204 This site has the one that I use, and I have been very satisfied with it.  No problems with the wheels or handles, and I am pretty hard on bags.

Chitown, y don't u get the storm 3 ball roller tote. That way u have ur shoes in the bag, and if u have more accessories, get another one to make it for 6 balls and just use the other one just for accessories.

I thought I remembered that some time back, tournaments (perhaps just the PBA) would not allow the 4 and 6 ball side by side rollers to be used as they took up too much space in the concourse. In fact, someone once told me that is why the manufactures created the 4 ball in-line rollers.

However, being an old phart, I do not know how folks can pick up a 4 ball in-line roller and put it into the back of a vehicle. That is why I like my 4 ball roller, it comes apart easily into two 2 bag sections and I have lots of room for accessories. And, I can easily pick up each half and put it into the back of my Jeep Liberty.

But, to each his own!

The problem I have with the new rollers that are on the market is they are too bulky!  I don't know why these companies don't make more compact rollers.

I currently have 2-3 ball totes from VISE and they are very compact.  I use a backpack for my shoes and accessories.  However, these bags can be tough to haul around during a tourney in a large bowling center.

I'm going to build or buy a small dolly to put these totes on.  This way it's easier to roll thru the centers.  Any ideas?

I don't like the in line 4 or 5 ball rollers. They are top heavy, don't handle well and the ball on top tends to pull the sewing apart. The 4 or 6 ball rollers from Storm or Roto are the best! They are compact and come apart easili for loading. The wider wheelbase makes them much more stable.I have both the 6 and 4 ball Rolling Thunder from Storm and find them to be the best rollers on the market.

I will like to find and get these type of wheels for my 4 and 6 ball roller.

I changed to 5 inch shopping cart wheels on my rollers but like to buy the three wheels spoke type and try them out. It looks that it will make it easier to roll and roll over a curb, stairs or obstacles.

I have a 6 ball roller from storm. I think its like the pro line or something like that I dont really remember but its an older one that i picked up off ebay for about 100 shipped so I though it was a great deal. It comes apart in 3 2 ball sections which helps when loading in a car but sux when its raining out side.

Here is something for $44.95 and that could easy carry 2 double bowling ball bags and extra. It is light weight and easy to roll and fold away. With some bungee cords and you are set. Could hold up to 150 pounds.

That doesn't look to bad.  I think it's kind of tall for what i'm looking for but the diea is correct.

I just want to make it as compact as I can.  My VISE totes are awesome but don't like pulling two sperate totes around.  I want to combine them side by side some how so I only have to pull one bag. I'm going to try to come up with something to connet them.  I just have not figured it out yet.

I may have to just make something for them.

When i use the 5 ball roller i keep a double tote in the trunk, put the 2 balls in the tote and lift the 3 balls left in the trunk. Not a big deal to me at all but i could see where trying to lift 5 balls would be heavy for most people.

Did you look at the 4-ball roller on this site?
Breaks down small.

I have a KR 4-ball roller, and for the most part I like it pretty well.  The only real problem for me is that it sucks having to take it down to put in the back of my truck, especially if it's raining.  Also I have the older style bag which not only has the small inline skate wheels on it, but the lower section is top loading which almost negates the benefits of have a 4-ball bag due to having to take the top off to get to the rest of my equipment.  A friend of mine has a new KR 6-ball roller which I must say is very nice, and great when we go to tournaments(only real time we use it.)  All of the compartments on it a front loading which is a major plus, and it also has the large wheels making it a bit easier to roll, however it can be a big pain in the @$$ to navigate just due to the sheer size of it...

Really like my Roto 4-ball. Double solid handles on bottom bag make for easy pick up.

I would of thought by now that these company's would get the hint that compact is the way to go.  Most of the rollers are just not compact.

I should of picked up the brunswick 4 ball roller from last years line.  It was all front loading and didn't look all that bulky.  I just can't find that bag for sale anymore.
