Title: Best Three ball tote for airline travel???
Post by: vkowalski1970 on March 14, 2013, 08:50:47 AM
Well the last two years going to USBC we had a bowler drive and take all of our balls with him, but this year that is not happening. I am planning on taking 5 balls this year. I will be carrying on a two ball tote with shoe pocket. I am looking for advise on a three ball tote I can check as baggage and be pretty secure with the bag not falling a part and the balls being safe. Wheels are a must.

Recommendations please?

Vise three ball had them for a couple years still haven't broke. Will get in under weight limit too. Do not get the storm ones unless they changed the last couple years. They break in less than a month for me

Do not get one of the rollers with the outboard wheels. First of all the airlines store them on the side, ruining the bag. Because of that, I also had one wheel broken off. Try to get the older design with the inboard wheels.

2 more hints: be absolutely sure of what your bag weighs. I had a Southwest airlines scale weigh my bag 8 pounds heavier than it actually was; in fact it passed weigh in on the way there with the same balls in it!
Also, curbside baggage check in seems to me more lenient with the weigh situation.

Hope this helps you

Also, Buddies has the old design storm bags without shoe pocket for 49.95

I had a three ball Rolling Thunder bag, paid $179 and it tore apart in 6 months...I wont buy a storm bag anymore...

I have a vise two ball that is great, but I was worried about the wheels breaking on the plane, the are not really off the side but do stick out the back.

I just saw Buddies has a real nice package....Vise three ball tote with shoe case and Two ball tote for $99 shipped....I dont need another two ball, but thats a good deal if the three ball will stand up to the airlines.

Whatever bag you plan on using please please get some bubble wrap and that should help a lot.  Just enough to cover the ball once, also having a towel on the top and bottom would be a good idea.  This will add to the weight a little.
