tote or roller? need advice.
« on: November 14, 2004, 04:50:26 PM »
Ok, my 3 bad roller is starting to fall apart and I need to get a new bag. Right now I can decide if I want to get a few tote bags or a 4 ball roller. As of right now I'm leaning towards getting two tote bags but was looking for some advice and opinions. The reason I'm leaning towards the totes is the size and price, but mainly size. As of right now I don't have a lot of trunk space so fitting a 4 ball roller in there isn't the easiest thing in the world.

Plus I know it's not that easy to roll a roller around after some of my league nights with all the people coming in the for the second shift and what not. Also living in Ohio with all the snow doesn't make for much fun trying to wheel a bag around in all of it. The totes would make both of those things easier. It would also be better for tournaments because it's not always easy to move a roller around.

So what does everyone else use? Are there any real disadvantages to using totes over rollers besides the strain on the shoulders? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hello,
I like the totes.  Main reasons are that they are cheaper and easier to transport.  When me and my boys go to tournaments its no problem fitting about 14-16 balls(all in totes) in the car, and thats a Honda Civic.  Plus it won't hurt as much when you need to replace the totes.

When I am traveling, I recommend a two ball roller and a two ball tote. Some parking lots are far away from the bowling center.  Airports are tough to travel through also. If you decide to carry 3 balls the two ball roller can convert to a three ball roller with a clip on.  When I am at my home center and parking is close, I carry 2 totes.

For me, a 3/4 ball roller is hard to get in and out of car trunks.  It is a deadlift of a minimum of 50 lbs and could be as much as 75 lbs.

I think it really depends on the amount of balls you bring.  I usually bring a 3 ball roller, and 2 totes.  If you must by a 4 ball bag, I was thinking about the new 4 ball inlines.

Go with the totes.  Much easier to move around in a full center if your a tournament bowler.  For just leagues I'd say a 3 ball roller should suffice; but, a four if you must.
