cheapest place to pre-order the 9s?
« on: August 02, 2015, 10:15:56 AM »
Anybody found a place with a better price than another for pre-order? Seems 189.99 is the norm.

If these are now sold with MAP pricing, why not go crazy and do something like..... order from your pro shop instead of trying to save a nickel buying online? You get the added bonus of customer service if they fit different than expected or need replacing due to a defect.

Sales tax is one reason. In CA, that adds $18 to the price. Of course, depending on which online source I purchase from(I.E. Bowlers Paradise), I will still get charged California sales tax. However, if I buy through Buddies Pro Shop, no sales tax and in effect an $18 discount.

Not that I will be buying "The 9's"

In Pennsylvania, you still have to pay Sales Tax on Internet Purchases if not assessed at the time of purchase. It is reported on your income tax return as a Use Tax and added to your tax liability.  Maybe I am one of those rare people, but I actually report the use tax each year for online purchases I made that were not taxed but would have been if I purchased locally.

California has the same thing:  http://www.boe.ca.gov/ads/news06.htm

So trying to save having to pay sales tax is kind of a moot point if you have to pay it anyway.

FYI, there is a whole list of products that have the MAP pricing from all the manufacturers.  This is in response to the brick and mortar pro shops complaining that they could not compete with the online (no overhead) stores.  By adding the MAP pricing, the online could not sell below a certain price allowing the physical location to compete.

Pro Shops have been closing every time you blink because we can't compete with Internet pricing. Brick and Mortar shops are a LOCAL business that is there for their bowlers and provide a service and competitive prices with the Internet. Try supporting your local economy for a change instead of the business 2000 miles away from you that could care less after they took you money. Like Nails said, if your local pro shop is good, they should be competitive and give you customer service. People like you are the first that go into a local shop and complain about how the ball you bought online does not fit properly or the shoes are not the right size, but hey you save a buck!

I'll start reporting it when California finds a way to prove I bought it. Until then, I'll keep my money.

Careful throwing the "you" around.  I am also a pro shop operator and would rather see the bowler come to me first.  I will help them when they order stuff online but not always for no charge.  In the end the purchase costs the same if you buy it online or at the shop.

My Pro Shop closed down suddenly several days ago, and the owner has no plans to reopen it.  I wish that Pro Shops in my area had more consistent shop hours.  The shop I would like to switch to is open only 3 hours per day during the work week (6pm-9pm), and then only open 5 days total per week on top of it.  Getting there is going to be tough, which means buying polishes, cleaners, tape, towels, abralon pads, etc. is going to go to online shops.

I have a fallback shop I can go to in a pinch, but the quality of work is inconsistent and I have a hard time trusting the work will be done properly.  They also have a very lean inventory of accessories and supplies which makes stopping in for basic "immediate need" stuff frustrating.

I am all for supporting the local guy, but they also need to be reasonably available for me to do so.

That's certainly an option.  I simply err on the side of caution and pay the applicable use tax each year to prevent any future headaches.  In most cases, I would have purchased locally had the product been available and would have had to pay any associated tax anyway.

As a shop operator, you should be encouraging to purchase through you, not helping them order online. I stock shoes, but not high end shoes. If a customer comes in and looks at purchasing a show such as the 9, I will quote a price that is worth my time. After paying shipping on a pair of shoes, making a $5 profit is not worth my time. Most of my customers are willing to pay a few more dollars because they know that if there is any issues, I ensure they are taken care of. If they like the internet price better, then purchase online but don't expect me to spend 1/2 of my time helping when I have paying customers waiting for my services.

I can afford to buy one or two pairs of these shoes, but I rather not. I can buy a BMW 5 (almost did two weeks ago), but I rather not, my truck is still good to me. We thought about going 3K square feet, 3 car garage, but we decided to up grade the house we live in.

I make choices to buy and companies can do whatever they want to make money. If I owned a business, that's what I'll do too. Everyone has a choice. Either buy it or not, but don't whine about the prices. chet, When I started smoking (I don't anymore 9 years smoke free) cigs and gas were less than a $1. everything will go up. Just prepare for it.

That's why I still have 6's and two pairs of 8's that were under $120 nib/sale. Cause I knew this will happen with the shoes. The ball prices gave it away lol......

Good luck and enjoy your 9's

M5?

Naw…

Anyone who can afford an M5 isn't going to break a sweat over the MAP pricing of a pair of shoes.

But a vanilla BMW 5?? That might be more bargain bin bowling shoe territory.

It just shows you have some common sense. Unless you're going to spend serious weekend time at the race track and pop a few grand for a new set tires every few weeks, the BMW "M" series is overkill.

Spend your money on a 535 (more power than can be rationally used), and use a small percent of the savings on a pair of 9's. You'll have a win-win.  ;)
