Title: Dexter SST 8 or 3G?
Post by: Metal_rules on January 26, 2013, 06:02:42 PM
What are the differences between the shoe brand? Is one more comfortable than the other? quality? I am looking at getting some new shoes. I am leaning toward the SST 8 only because I have had some older Dexter's. I am open for suggestions, thanks.

I've never used anything but dexter but I love my sst8s I've had them for almost 2 years and they are showing a little wear. I bowl 2-3x a week and as long as you change the soles as needed and dont abuse them they should last 5-6 years at least

The Tour Ultras are pretty awesome. I have been using the same pair for 8 years now. I feel they are the most comfortable shoes I own.

I have owned both.  Dexters have a thicker sole and tends to help stability.  I cannot wear them because I drag my right toe and I ruined 3 push soles in 4 months.  At $25 a pop, that was just too expensive.  The tour ultras are great for me because of the large toe cap.  They are comfortable, but I would prefer the thicker soles.  My next pair of shoes will probably be SST6 because they don't have an interchangeable push sole that will tear away.  If you don't drag your toe, either brand will do you fine.

SST8 for me, on 2nd pair
1st pair is still useable after 5+ years of heavy use and i came across the new ones with such a good deal i couldn't pass it up.

For me, being LH and wide feet, I had no options, dexter had a wide version and with the soles being interchangeable LH or RH.

Since I don't need to change my soles on my push away foot - should I look at the SST 6 - OR 5'S   -- I don't like to slide allot - just a very small amount.

I have owned tour ultras, sst 7, and sst 8. My favorite pair of the 3 were the 7s. Main reason for me is the 8's I have the push of sole coming off from where I drag my toe and also on the slide the rubber toe bumper is coming off. On the Tour Ultras the ring around the slide came off and would curl under my shoe and It would mess my slide up, I had to keep gluing that part down.

The sst7s had a harder toe bumper on both shoes that just held up better. I would personally suggest sst 5's 6's or 7's

SST 5 LX is what I use... Same soft and supple kangaroo leather that was used on the SST 6 LX that everyone seemed to love a few years back.

Dexter doesn't use this stuff on anything other than the SST 5 LX anymore...  Doesn't take much to break in the shoes, breaking in the soles may vary from bowler to bowler.
