dexter sst6 vs 3g sport ultra
« on: December 01, 2009, 08:35:13 AM »
I bought a pair of dexter sst6 back in the summer of 2008.  I liked the style and fit but could never get the slide right.. all the h5s were too tacky and the red heel was way to slick.. Have been using the 3g sport ultras since then.. on a whim I wanted to try my sst6's again.  I took some super fine grade sandpaper and polishing powder to my h5 heel...this seem to do the trick as I was able to slide great with them..
well first night out about a month ago I shot my first 800 series and have been on a tear ever since. Multiple mid 700 series and a couple 290s..
I'm not sure if it is just in my head but I feel the wider profile of the SST6 allows me to be more stable and have more control at the line..I still hate the push off sole that gets slick after it gets a tiny bit dirty.. for this I take some 80 grit sand paper to it every now and then to get the tack back.

I don't think it's something that's just in your head. This was the deciding factor for me in going with the SST8's instead of the Ultras. The Ultras take comfort to a slipper level, but at least to me, that's overkill. The Dexter's are more than adequately comfortable. I find the extra stability and support makes a big difference, especially when bowling 8-12 game blocks.

I want to check out the interchangeable heel etonics if they ever come out.. had a pair of the ess action before they have interchange slide soles..I love the support and the push off technology of the etonics... hate everything about the slide soles and heels though..
I was going to just pick up a pair of the ess interchangeables to compare them to the Dexters but I don't think I will be able to use them with the stock heel they use..

I was a die hard Linds fan for the first fifteen years of my bowling career, I needed a new pair of shoes and my dad bout me SST8's. Sold!!! I find them to be a ton more comfortable then the Linds. I also love the wider foot print they offer. I liked the soles better on the Linds, seemed to be a bit more adjustable. After getting them broke in and playing with different heel/sole combinations I absolutely like the SST8's better.

i wore dexters for years.....sst 4's, 5's , and 6's. i could never seem to get the right amount of slide. the wider platform of the 6's didn't seem any more stable than the narrower 4's and 5's. along with this dexters customer service let me down big time. i liked my linds exxxtras but their customer service was even worse. i'll never buy/use either of those brands again. i've wore dynorooz/3g tour ultras since then and have never looked back. quality construction, great comfort, and six different heels and soles. and far beter customer service.

I have the sst6 and the ultras. I like my Dexters 10 times more than the ultras. For me it was the wider footprint that gives me the extra stability that sold me. When wearing the 6s I seem to have a lot more balance. Also, the ultras started to fall apart almost as soon as I started wearing them. I have had the 6s for about 5 years and they are still holding up.
