« on: November 09, 2004, 05:14:57 AM »
i noticed an ad in the november issue of bowlers journal and it showed the 3 pro staffers from etonic----mika, robert smith, and chris johnson. i wonder how much $$$$ etonic had to play with to sign these players away from dexter ?

Etonic shouldn't have had any problems with signing anyone due to money.  Their golf shoe line probably would cover anything they need until they are set.  There are a couple of shoe manufactures out there that are going to have some problems and Dexter maybe one until they increase quality.  Lind's may be another for the same reason.  There were 10 to 12 shoe companies I saw at BowlExpo this summer and all want part of the pie.  Lots of competition in the shoe markets.  I switched to Etonics in the summer and like them a lot but I will be trying out several companies in the near future.

I have heard some good things about Etonics. They have really
made news by getting Robert Smith, Mika and Brian Himmler...

I have a pair of Etonic's and love them. They have a great
looking line and use Goodyear rubber on their heels. The company
has a huge following with their golf shoes and their bowling shoes
appear to be a hit as well.

Until they they offer a replacable heel/sole feature on their shoes, they will not be able to compete with Dexter and ABS..

To some that bowl in one house, that might not be a big deal, but to others that bowl in tournys and multiple houses, it means alot..

They are already competing with Dexter but not so much with ABS....  Dexter's low end tennis shoe market were a lot of their money comes from is taking a big hit.  There are a lot of SST's sold but no where near the number of tennis shoe style shoes.  If the support structure is taken away then Dexter will find it very hard going.  They have a lot of competition in this arena.   Circle, BF World and many others want a piece of this.  Etonic may take over a large portion very quickly.  There are a lot of people that are very unhappy with their Dexter shoes.  Sidenote:  Most of the bowler's in this world do not use interchangeable soles and heals.  They are the single house bowlers.  A large group of these people are women.

I bowl in several different houses.

I do not find the need to change my heel or sole.

It is not a matter of bowling in different houses to change shoes.  But channelsurfer do you just bowl on wood, because if you went from wood to synthetic approaches you would not be using the same shoe.  If you use the same shoe on synthetics when there is humidity you will just blow you knee out if you try to slide.  I bowl on wood and synthetic and have never been able to use the same soles.  I will be interested in etonic when they come out with interchangeable sole and heals.

I currently bowl in 2 houses.  One my home house is on a hill on the westside of Irving a Dallas suburb.  The other is Don Carter West in the Trinity River bottom area of Dallas.  One house has wood and the other synthetic approaches.  I use our product on both with no difference in slide either place.  In fact at BowlExpo VIA had a lane setup in the exhibit hall.  If you struck they put you in a drawing and 40 people won $100 each.  They were sweeping EZ Slide off the approach with a wisk broom and letting people bowl in tennis shoes on the approach.  Prepped a new demo sock on the carpet threw 2 house balls and made $100.  People looked at me as if I was from outer space because I was not having any problems with the approaches.  I think once Etonic gets the interchangeable soles and heals out they should be fantastic.  I love my ESL Classics.  So far a great shoe and comfortable.  They actually have an arch support in them.  Once they come out with the interchangeables or you find a way around the one slide surface/default like we have these shoes are very nice and comfortable.  The pricing is excellent.

I just got an email from etonic and they told me that they are currently working on interchangable soles and they should be out in the 05-06 lineup.  I think I will be getting a pair of those when they come out.

I never used to have to change but my knees are not in the greatest shape and I bowl in at least 18 different houses in the year.  about 12 synthetic approaches and 6 wood.  Synthetic houses are usually in the warm time of the year where it is nice and humid.
