Help! New Etonic Sandbaggers are sticking.
« on: February 15, 2005, 05:56:02 PM »
I just received a pair of Etonic Sandbaggers with "Perfect Slide" soles to replace my 20+ year old Brunswicks. The shoes feel great and give me better arch support than 99% of my street shoes (I have very high arches)but they don't have anywhere near the slide of my old, no frills, leather soled shoes.
What can I do to get these to slide better? They don't outright stick like something about to snap your knee, but they definitely grab and trash my timing. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks

My Etonics stuck for about a game (practice of course). Now they are perfect.

Rough them up with a wire brush, then turn them over and rub in e-z slide in to the sole. (i mean rub it in pretty hard with your fingers) If this doesnt help, and they dont stock sticking after some games, you can always get a slide sock. I used to just use an old sock that I cut up. Just cut the ankle off the sock, and slide it over your shoe. Be careful though, they slide a LOT.

Thank you for the replies. Is Easy Slide a powder? How does it differ from talcum powder? How does it compare to the (wax?) sticks? I have not had a pair of bowling shoes that had other than smooth leather for a sole before.

e-z slide is bascially like baby powder/talcum powder, it just makes things slippery. As for the wax sticks, I have no idea? Never heard of them. What type of soles are on the etonics anyways?

I don't know what the proper name for them is. It is like a "mole skin" material (very short, almost fury/fuzzy material). The (wax) sticks have been around for decades. My first (and last!) experience with them was back in the early `70s when I was having a problem with a damp shoe (courtesy of a co-bowler's beer). It was supposed to help me slide better. Instead, I ended up doing a face plant down the first quarter of the lane that would have made a skier proud ! I never was able to get rid of the added gumminess until I got home and washed the sole off with water and soap and gave it time to air dry.

Also, on another note (but related), is there a better way to learn how to use (read: not break your neck) higher end shoes with a "breaking" heal when I am used to sliding flat-footed?
Thanks again,
Joel
