Post by: PinSMasher on February 11, 2010, 05:53:27 AM
does anyone know an alteritave to the robby new skin patches?  All im looking for is a material similar to the skin patches that i can buy and use instead of buying the liquid and the patches every time.  any suggestions are helpful

Super glue does work pretty well but the patches help a bunch, i haven't found a substitute yet but super glue does get used in a pinch. I use the Ebonite stuff, I think they call it X-Tra Skin, its probably the same as Robbys.

Panty Hose works well. Just make sure you get the very thin ones. Just cut whatever size you need.

Get the liquid bandage stuff in the wound care section at your local store.  Works as a great barrier like new skin but is a lot more pliable and will stretch and move with your skin instead of cracking and flaking off.. I never used the patches with the new skin so it was a drop in replacement.

As far as the patches, go to your local fabric store and get some nylon material and cut the size you want....they probably have something that is very similar to the patch material. Bring a couple of the patches and show them what you are looking for. They should be able to find something that works..
Just make sure it is nylon as I believe it reacts with the liquid and kind of melts it down to form with your skin..

I put on a few layers. Brush a layer, blow dry then another..
It does seem to dry a bit slower than the bowling new-skin..
Smells pretty much the same though..
Don't know if it is the same as having a patch .. I don't use the patches even when I used the new-skin.. I would say it would provide protection.. Provides a layer between the skin and the ball..I use a hand bag before I bowl so I think the powder helps it slide.. not sure how it would work straight against the thumbhole without powder..
