Title: Quality/durability issues with the 3G Tour Ultras?
Post by: Matt Fortney on October 14, 2013, 09:54:23 AM
So I was telling a buddy of mine that I was looking at the Tour Ultras and he said that he's seen a lot of quality issues with them the past season or two. Anyone out there experience that? It was the first I had heard of it, so I thought I would check on here to see what people think. Let me know.

I've had my pair for 4-5 years with no issues and they look like they'll last another 4-5 years.

I had a pair of 3G Shufflers and tore the toe cap on my push off shoe after a month.  When contacting 900 Global, I was basically told your mileage may vary.  I would buy that response had I ever torn a toe out on any other pair of shoes that I'd owned including a different pair of 3G shoes.

I have owned 2 pair of Tour Ultras....one pair from the ABS days and the 2nd pair from the DynoRooz days. I still have both and neither has so much as a popped stitch.

I bought the 2nd pair because I have a nasty habit of pushing into my slide and this leaves me with a flat spot on the ball of my non-sliding foot. Both shoes have the same exact wear.

I am contemplating a new pair of Dexters since I can change the push sole as it wears out but the tour Ultras are just so stinking comfortable.....

Thanks for the replies guys. This is kind of what I thought, as I've never seen anyone with issues with them myself. Risk worth taking if they're half as good as what I hear. Thanks again.

I had my first pair of Tour Ultras for about 8 years. Bought my  current pair of Tour Ultras 2 years ago...the initial toe cap wore out fast but the replacement toe cap I installed has been going strong for a year.  Great bowling shoes!!!

I bought a pair of Tour Ultras after hearing all of the glowing reviews on this site. I had nothing but trouble with them. All on my non-slide foot. I noticed the toe cap peeling away after a month or so and the foam midsole was breaking down. I put them away and pulled out my Dexter SST 5's to finish my league season. I spent $18 on shoe repairs to replace the midsole and re-glue the toe cap. Unfortunately, the toe cap soon came loose again and I gave up.

Luckily, Bowling.com let me return it under warranty and they let me switch to the new SST Tank. It's early on but no complaints so far.

I have my original tour ultras from Dynorooz.  I bowl probably 15 games a week.  I am on my 3rd toe cap.  Still in great shape after 5+ years.  you need to use Contact Cement on the top cap to get it to stay.

I switched to Dynorooz because my Dexters would never last a season.  Had the vinyl inside tear out or get holes in the heel.  Stitching came lose on my non-slide foot.  Even had a terrible experience at Nationals where the velcro part of the detachable slide peeled off.  I wound up on my butt, and all the booths were closed.

Ok, I still love my 3G Tour Ultras BUT my toe cap is torn after owning it for about 8 months. I guess that's pretty good, but on my first pair of TU, the toe cap lasted almost 2 years.

Gonna try and replace the cap and see how much longer it lasts.

I've always had the SST4, SST5, SST6, SST7 THEN SUPER HEAVY SST'8'S, WHICH ALONG WITH THE 6,7,and 8's were stolen. I switched to the 3G Tour ultras and I love them more than any of my old Dexters.

I have had my Ultras for about 2 years.  The original toe cap wore out fast in my opinion, but the replacement toe cap is working well.  It does take a little skill to properly glue the toe cap on the shoe.  Great shoes!!!
