Title: question about tape

Hey guys i was wondering how often you change your tape in your ball to avoid that gummy sort of stuff. Or does it even make a difference.

I change it if it gets gummy and nasty.  Usually, keeping the balls from getting too hot--i.e., don't leave them in the car--will keep the tape from gumming up.  I've got stuff with tape that's several years old with no problems.
