I'm gonna be purchasing a new 4 ball bag to replace my 3 ball
Ebonite Big Mouth. Do most of you guys prefer the in-line bags
or stackable versions similar to Storm Streamline??? What are
the benefits of each type?

Why don't you just get the Storm single ball that straps to the handle?It is cheaper by far,The stackable 4 balls are nice but if you are in a tournament they are a pain to move around.
My Lane#1 3 ball actually has more room than my 4 ball..
For tournaments I just bring 2 2 ball totes that is the easiest way for me....

Seems like an I-4 would be very prone to tipping over or wobbling because of so much weight on a narrow wheelbase. I have a 3-ball Streamline that's a few years old and every time it has to jump a curb or hit a pothole or uneven pavement, I have to fight to keep it on both wheels (other than that, it's a great bag).

I'd get the traditional 4-ball roller to have the wide wheelbase and lower center of gravity (giving you better leverage to hold it while dragging). Most have a removable top bag that'll work as a 2-ball tote (for those tournaments that everyone's talking about) or just to make the thing lighter while you lift it into your car. You can also add a third layer to some of them to convert it to a 6-ball roller.

Not to hijack, but I am in need of a new 4 ball roller. I need the 2X2 since when I fly it is usually for a bowling tournament. Which is the most travel worthy? I will be replacing my Columbia 4 ball roller from about 3 - 4 years ago.

The new Roto-Grip bags come with a 5 year warranty. Also, I noticed that they increased the durability of the tires (larger), the plastics that are used to hold the bags upright, and the zippers.

How many black bags do we need? You can get black with red, blue, yellow, green, silver, orange,... trim. I thought the red bag was really cool, and if I needed a 4-ball bag, I'd've gotten that one.

American managed to bend the axil, so it just doesn't roll well anymore

How far down does the handle retract on the Roto-Grip bag? I noticed the Storm bags that came out a few years ago do not go down as far as my Columbia does. That could be a problem fitting the lower bag into my trunk. There is a little room between the top of the trunk and the top of the handle. Not a major concern, being flight worthy is number 1.

I have the Columbia Hi Roller, and prefer this stackable version to the in-lines. Even my 2 ball in-line wasnt very stable and the 3 and 4 ball ones I saw were even worse. With the handle down it fits in the trunk of my Honda Civic, while the 4 ball in-line was too long. I also live in the Northeast, and the stability and the big wheels on it allow me to pull it to and from my car even if there is ice and snow on the ground. It can be hard getting it between crowds of people and around chairs at the alley, but usually people see me and my locker on wheels coming and get out of my way. I havent had to run over any small dogs or children with it, but I could if I had too

Thanks guys for all of the answers. I think I'll just stick
w/ the 3 ball rollers and carry a 2 ball tote like I've been
doing for the last few yrs.
The plastic cracked on my Ebonite Big Mouth and the zipper has
finally worn out.
I like the looks of several of the newer 3 ball rollers, but having
the handle not stick out too much at the top when closed is a huge
factor. I'd also like to get a little more room for accessories.
The Big Mouth had the side pocket, but it wasn't really for keeping
tape/glue/files, etc....

Actually, they are a black base color with a metallic burnt orange secondary color. If I had to guess percentages on the 4 ball bag, 55-60% of it is black while the rest is the metallic orange color. To me, the rest of the line of bags look almost opposite as far as the color scheme goes (the burnt orange is still the trim, but more dominant in the color scheme).

I just measured, and the handle actually retracts about 1.5-2" below the top of the bag, giving a clearance of about 20" from bottom of the wheels to the top of the handle. If you have stuff in the top compartment that wont compress down, it would be about 22" from the bottom of the wheel to the top of the bag.

That is the current lineup for the 2006-2007 season. I think the previous poster who mentioned all the other colors was talking about how black bags in general (from other manufacturers) were common place, and that the red Roto-Grip bags offered in previous years "bucked the trend."

Definitely better looking than the Streamlines (which just have the accent color in the trim), comparable to the Rolling Thunder, but that don't come in red. There's just something about red, ya know? Everything looks good in red (even me).
