I've been experimenting with tape on the back of my thumb to see if I like it. I like the feel, but the tape I'm currently using, Vise Red Hada Patch, has been a real disappointment. It curls, has lousy adhesion, stretches inconsistently... In general, definitely not what I'm looking for.
I'd like to continue working on this experiment and then move to fingers as well. I'm looking at bio-skin ultra, but scared to try more Vise products. Anyone have the same experiences I've had, suggestions, other brands?

All tapes will do this thing that you described. You should try washing your hands before you apply the tape, as this will clear off any of the dirt or grease from your hands allowing for the adhesive of the tape to adhere to your skin rather than the oils on your skin.

I appreciate the response, but there are multiple types, textures and manufacturers out there. I have to believe there may be better solutions.

We carry this type for the reasons you have mentioned with others. In my experience it resists peeling, and is somewhat thinner (less bulky) so if you round the corners before applying it you should have good results.

I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish with you application of the tape, but I was looking for something to get a more consistent and cleaner release. I tried a couple of brands, VISE, Brunswick, etc... and didn't find any to my liking, much for the same reasons you had stated. Then when I was looking for a new ball cleaner I stumbled upon Valentino's Franken Tape. This has been the best tape I have tried. It doesn't seem to have the adhesion problems I found with the other brands and it seems to be less averse to bunching when applying. I find that it lasts much longer than the others, and when you need to remove it, it comes off pretty easily without leaving a residue, which is a major plus. That being said, it is a really thin tape, so I am not sure how good it will work if you are trying tighten your thumb hole up as it would require quite a few pieces of tape when compared with the other brands.

i really like the magic carpet, and no residue, and no adjusting on the back, and adhesion is strong when pressure applied

I use this tape, when I use tape on my thumb.
I had the same problem with the other Vise tapes...
they didn't stick.
The green tape seems to hold better.
Wipe your thumb with rubbing alcohol, let it dry,
and make sure your round the square corners off.

I just dont see where your having the problem, unless you got a bad package or something, I have used the Blue hada patch #1 for over a year and have had NO problems that you speak of. I use to use the vise thumb tape that someone above put up but it kept moving on my thumb, I guess everyone is different

my hands sweat lots when i bowl.. so when i used the hada patch i was extremely pleased with how well it stayed on and never came undone

You might want to try Perfect Patch from Ebonite. I comes in a small pouch with about 10 precut strips, that is the only downside if you use it all the time, it does not come any other way thatI have found. I do use this on the back of my thumb and it does not roll up, The strips are long enough to cover the full length of your thumb so part of the strip is outside the thumb hole and thin enough to comfortable..

I have had no problems with excess residue with the #1 Vise Hada Tape but the #3 is a different story. The #3 leaves a nasty amount of residue.

Thanks to all for the info. I think I'll try both the Franken Tape and the Perfect Patch. Appreciate the posts fom those who had no problem with Vise, but my own experience just doesn't agree. It's been really bad, and I'm usually a fan of Vise.

Instead of putting the tape on your thumb you might try some of the thumb insert tapes. My hands sweat alot so the thumb patch tape doesn't adhere the best on my hand. The insert tapes on the other hand will stick very well to a clean thumb hole. My other issue with patch tape would be that it takes awhile to put on correctly. The main secret to putting in insert tape is not that different from patch tape you need to slowly remove you thumb from the hole while griping the ball to see where the thumb is dragging on the way out of the hole. For me, this lines up with the center of my finger nail as it exits the hole - likely somewhat different for each person
I very seldom see a thumb dragging early, it is almost always the last 1/3 to 1/4 of the motion out of the hole where is catches.

Was the Vise tape the roll or pre cut? I, and all my customers have not had any problems with the pre cut. I do tell them that it is best to wash their hands first to get any of the oils on the skin off for the best results!
