Title: Am I missing anything
Post by: djgook on April 13, 2016, 11:46:15 AM
My weapons are as follows:
Red legend
Dark legend
Scandal
Viral Solid
Strike King

Do I need anything to add to my weapontry or is everything good?
As I am a new bowler which bowls two handed, seeking advice from the more experience bowlers.

Plastic, especially if you are a two-hand bowler with high revs.

c300 White Dot, Ebonite Maxim, DV8 Polyester, Brunswick Target Zone etc. Or you might be set with the weak urethane's like the Storm Mix, Motiv Arctic Sniper etc.

Get yourself a urethane ball. It will probably be your go to ball when the lanes are over / under. Will give you a better read to the pocket

I will add another vote for urethane. If you are a two-hander with high revs and speed, you may find yourself loving the look at urethane has to offer at various times.

Another shout out for urethane!

I disagree on needing a urethane.  You can take a low end pearl and drill it with a long low flaring layout and achieve the same results.

Your personal experience with this is certainly valid food for thought, but I disagree based upon my own experiences in this matter. I have a Storm Tropical Breeze Pearl that gives me a great urethane-like reaction...when I throw it with my thumb in the ball. However, when I bowl with no thumb, the Tropical Breeze Pearl that normally gives me that smooth, steady reaction, backends very, very hard even with the weak drilling and surface prep I use. On the other hand, my Black Hammer Urethane is always smooth and controllable. Sure, there are times when it hooks more than I'd like, but it's never snappy. That's the big advantage that I see with urethane over the mild resins. Still, to each his own.

I agree with Gene. Drilling even with a weak layout for a 2 hander depending on ball speed will still give him a hard snap on the back ends. But, put him generally behind the head pin for nasty wash outs

I recently added a urethane ball---the Blue Hammer---for the reasons that Gene and noslouch stated. Even my Freeze with a relatively weak layout jumped hard left when it hit friction. I have practiced only once with the Hammer, but so far, it is doing what I wanted: a very smooth and controllable backend when my other pieces would snap.

would the new black urethane work or should I go for the lower urethane (blue, burgundy)

The new black urethane would work just fine. Just let your PSO know that you are a 2 handed bowler, either low, medium, hard throwing. Reason is to keep the ball from flaring over thumb or fingers. Who wants to see a ball bouncing near the pin deck and have terrible pin fall.

Ok I went to this lane with a couple of my buddies (we go to different lanes and play for a belt). These lanes was as dry as a street( AMF Pikesville lanes in Baltimore). Before I decided to go and purchase another ball (ones metioned above) I threw my Strike king which has a very weak layout. The ball just hooked straight in the left gutter. I stand far left and I was throwing it far right, riding the gutter. I was real fustrated as one of my friends who uses a house ball stood all the way right(he is a right hander)close to the gutter and threw the ball straight and the ball hooked straight to the pocket. I might mention that he has zero revs and all he do his throw straight.
If a strike king is a very weak ball should I just go plastic which is just the weakest. Would a urethane do the same thing as my Strike King?
I never been fustrated when bowling. Now everyone who wins they choose this dry @$$ lane. Bowling Gods please help me.

A pearl urethane would work. Polished rubber ball or a polyester ball would also do just fine on fried toasty conditions.
