Looking to get back into bowling. Occasional to weekly. Looking at a Cyclone with finger tip. Is this a good starter ball or would some other similarly priced ball be better.
Ball will be 12-13 lbs, I wear an ankle brace, bad shoulder, and damaged middle finger makes a heavier ball tiring and causes too much pain at the end of the night. Will bowl at various lanes, so lane conditions will vary.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

For a starter ball that would be a good choice. However, I believe most manufacturer's equipment under 14lb's do not have the same core than the ones in 14lb's or higher. I only know of a few manufacturer's that have the same core from 12-16 pounds.

I pretty sure Motiv uses the same core in all weights. They might have different densities, but it is not a "generic" core.

You are correct, Sir! Don't know if this fact makes a whole lot of difference to a person who is just getting back in to bowling, but....you are correct.

I figured if someone is telling them some manufacturers have the same core, may as well give an example. I agree, doubt it would matter too much to this bowler, but I can't alter another poster's comment. Track's post was lacking in my opinion.

Thanks for the input. the specs for the cyclone are listed below. would the 12 or 13 lb be better based on these spec. I'll check out the Motiv line

Yes, it was lacking. I didn't want to post specifics unless the OP requested it in a follow up. It's hard enough getting back into the game let alone confusing them more. Since we are going to name some manufacturers, 900 Global and I believe AMF too.

In that weight range, go with the heaviest ball you can handle comfortably. It won't deflect as much. -- JohnP

I just bought a 13 lb cyclone......the carry has been great.....you may want to talk to your ball driller about an extra hole for your pinky finger......that will take some pressure off your middle finger....good luck

Switch to lefty, buy a good 15 pound ball, with some backend!

PS the Cyclone is a good ball for controlling difficult shots. I believe it has multiple US opens in both the Senior and regular division both Male and Female! Very smooth and heavy rolling! For you next US open competition, get one!

I'm a newbie myself - pro shop suggested the cyclone as an entry level ball because of the price as much as anything else. After a month of practicing twice a week for an hour coupled with 2 lessons it is coming together and the ball is performing well for me. Seems to be very predictable.
I'm just throwing it straight and playing a hook at 35 to 40 feet. On a fresh house shot I had to roll it down the 10th board as I couldn't get it to spin enough to curve into the pocket further right than that - but by the 4th game the oil had moved enough that I was bowling down the 7th or 8th board and curving it in. Then Tuesday I was on a dry lane and it was hooking into the pocket from even the 3rd or 4th board.
I'm bowling a bit slow at 12 to 13 mph to give the ball more time to hook, since my technique isn't that great yet, but I can't complain about the ball. It certainly seems to perform as expected.
