good ball for a beginner

Hi Im new to bowling and Im looking to buy a good ball.I throw mostly striaght but I would like to be able to throw a hook.The guy at the proshop recomended the power diesel by hammer as a good all around ball.Would this be good for starting out?Thanks

ned flanders -- The Power Diesel is a good ball, but at your skill level it is more ball than you need.  Buy an entry level urethane or particle ball (the Ebonite Tornado is a good one) for about half the price and spend the money left over on some good coaching.  --  JohnP
