The dreaded bending of the elbow.
« on: March 29, 2006, 10:58:05 PM »
I keep on bending my elbow.  I don't even know I am doing it.  Question is their a device that will let me know when I bend my elbow?  I have guys on my team tell me, but that does not make me stop.  Please let me know this is driving me crazy.  It is getting close to the end of the season so I can practice.

Thank you.

[edit] Dn Carter[edit] bent his elbow and he did pretty well. as long as you arm swings through with the target and you have a good speed to rev match then it's ok.

if you are chicken winging it or your arm is drifting out from your body. that is a different story.

only a good coach will help you, if you want to stop bending the elbow. there are so many reason for this but I could assume the normal causes for most bowlers. ball to heavy, weak wrist. trying to hard to rev it. bad fit and pitches.and so on.

know one can help you without being there. go get a lesson or two from a good coach and these things will be taken care of.

I am in the middle of 5 lessons right now.  So your saying keep plugging along and it will take care of itself.  But I don't even know I am doing it. I would like something that tells me that I am doing it right away when I am not with my coach.  Thank you

I found that when I start my approach 4 step on the 3rd step if I push down and out slightly it tends "lock" my elbow and gives me the feed back that my elbow is straight. with other styles I had trouble and it caused me to come around the ball or loose other control. I have never seen a bowling aid or support for this. I should also mention that I do not hold the ball up high at the start of the approach slightly above the waist with knees slightly bent and waist slightly bent.

Earl Anthony bent his elbow and I think was pretty good...

BUT he kept it a constant bend...Don Carter bent his elbow too...was he any good?
