Help Choosing a new Ball.. Comparisons??
« on: March 16, 2004, 12:46:29 AM »
I consider myself a Novice Bowler looking to better my Game.  Current Average is 182. I'm not up on all the terminology, and not sure about Drilling placement, etc.. So please bare with me if I speak in Laymens Terms.

I currently throw an Ebonite Vortex V2 Particle. It's held up well for as many Games as I've thrown on it, but it's never had that Hard Aggressive back end flop that I want. I'm right handed and to get an Aggressive angle to the Pocket, I have to Throw almost straight down the 5 board. I can also go further out and get the Break I'm looking for, but to do so, I have to Slow the ball down considerably and it's just not comfortable. I have a Med-High Velocity Shot, and I'm looking for a Ball that will carry further down the lane then Snap into the Pocket.

I've been to 4 Different pro shops. Two of them recommended the Columbia Full Throttle. One recommended the Storm Triple-X Factor, and the last said to go with Ebonite Killer Instinct. Of course Each pro shop is trying to push their main Product line. But my question, before I spend that much on such an Aggressive ball, is there anywhere on the web that will give an Unbiased Comparison on The similar balls from different Brands?

Thanks for the help

Hey KCRoyal,
First of all, as far as your V2 Particle not snapping back, thats what its supposed to do.  Do a search on particle on the board and you can get the long explanation.  The down to earth point is particle balls try to make their move early so there is not that much energy left for the backend.  Reactives on the other had slide(store energy) then use it all on the backend, causing for bigger hooks.
As far as balls that will give you that skid/flip reaction, just about any reactive ball can be drilled to give you that reaction.  But some good ones that I have seen are: Black/Gold Messenger, Savage Flip, and the Hot Rod.  Like I said there are a just about endless balls you can pick.  But as far as bang for the buck I would say Hot Rod is a nice ball to get, but whatever ball you choose tell the driller what you want the ball to do, so they will set it up right for you.  As far as the balls you mentioned I never seen or thrown them

Hope this helps.

all true.......however, you can look at it like this.......why don't you get a ball to complement your V2 particle by getting a V2 sanded and put a light coat of polish on it, drilled similar to your particle, maybe a little longer pin to pap, or even a V2 Clean w/ the same drill.........
