Title: Help me get a new bowling balls
Post by: iiKingFox on July 05, 2017, 09:59:28 PM
Hey guys. I am currently 14. Been bowling for a couple weeks. I have been trouble getting hook with one hand on a house ball, and i joked around with two hands. It actually created a lot of hook. Im pretty average for someone new and I average 100 per game. I want to buy a ball thats good for 2 handed bowlers who arent very experienced like me. I throw 9-10 lbs but i can go up to 12 at most. Thanks! Leave suggestions below

There aren't a whole lot of reactive balls or balls that hook that go down under 10 pounds.  If you want to stick with the 2 handed thing, you might just get a regular plastic ball to start with, or maybe a urethane ball until you get some practice.  A hooking ball will likely curve too much to be much help to you right now.  Something like a T-Zone, a White Dot, or a Mix might be the best place to start.  If you want a hooking ball, a Tropical Storm would be a good one that will hook some but not crazy.  If you're looking urethane, a Blue Hammer would be a good one.

My son is 5 years old(two hander) and he throws a 10Lbs. Hammer Viral Solid. Get a 12Lbs. Ebonite Cyclone. If you are a two hander you should not feel the weight.

Just as Luke described, too early for something that you will not be able to handle as your young age, start with any of the beginning balls mentioned above.

Regarding the ball weight:
Are you basing the weight you can use off of your one handed throw with house balls?  The finger holes in those balls are often oversized and could be making the ball feel heavier than it really is.

The weight of your ball totally depends on your physical stature, strength and technique but I would recommend more than 12lbs.
You also don't need a brand new ball at this stage.  Talk to your local pro shop about getting fitted properly with a lightly used ball that shouldn't run you much more than $100.

Unfortunately, I did not read this in time. Lady st the pro shop said get 14 lbs. i can not handle it yet but ill grow into it and also ill work out more my muscles. But i got the tropical storm you mentioned at least. I got ripped off and she charged more than the actual cost but it comes with drilling at least. Thanks, though to everyone who replied.

To be specific, it was a tropical breeze. http://www.ballreviews.com/storm/tropical-breeze-tealblue-t301726.0.html

Should be a good place to start. Hammer the fundamentals for now. Hook will come with it.

Yep that tropical breeze is another one of Storm's legendary balls.  Great light oil ball.  Not just that but it may be possible when you get your next ball to polish the crap out of it and use it for spare ball duty as well.
