lanes types

can you tell me how the different types of land conditions affects the way your balls react. I have a bit hit and a dull monster smash and sometimes it takes me a game or two to figure out which ball works the best.

There are too many factors and variables in how lanes will react.  Generally, with oil, the ball will skid.  In dry, the ball will grab and hook (up to a point).

The variables include: bowler style, ball speed, rev rate, type of lane material, oil or conditioner used, length of pattern, age of lanes, weather conditions or humidity inside, etc.  That is not including the ball and the drilling of it, which adds many more variables.

There used to be a simple rule of adjustment, but I am not even sure that works any more.  It used to be:  keeping the same target that you were using to hit the pocket with, adjust by moving your feet in the same direction as the ball is going.  With today's lane patterns and balls, that doesnt always work.
