Lesson?
« on: September 16, 2003, 08:56:15 PM »
In the past i would bowl maybe once a year.  I joined a summer league and that's the 1st i've bowled consistently once a week. When I started the league i was throwing a straight ball and averaged about 145. about 1 month into it, i bought a fingertip bowl and started to "teach" myself how to throw a hook after a little dip in my average, i started to bring it up and finished with a 160 average. 3 weeks into my fall league i'm averaging 180.

I feel like since I tought myself how to throw a hook, i'm probably doing something wrong in my technique.  Do you think taking a lesson would help??  If so, what should i be looking for? what should i expect them to be helping me with??

I would go to someone in my league but its a very casual league and my average is already in the top 3.

Thanks in advance for you all's input

If youre happy bowling as you are and that is for fun stick with what you are doing.
However and this is what has happened to me. I, like you want to achieve the best of my ability and to do that coaching is basically a must.
Some may disagree, mostly people who have worked long and hard at their games and have found something that works for them.
However if you want to get better quicker and have a real understanding of how you get there, get a coach. Everyone has problems at times, but with a coach most of them can be spotted very quickly and put right. Something you cant do if you dont know exactly how your swing works.
Try to find a good coach, one who will help you to improve from what you have now. That is pick your good points and improve your weaker ones. I think its the best way to get faster improvement.
A good coach is worth his weight in gold as he gives you an improved game,self-belief and a shoulder to cry on.
