Need help with PAP
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:08:41 AM »
Hi, I'm new to the board so first off I would like to say hi to everyone.

Now..

I just bought my first reactive ball (14 lb. Ebonite Black Ice) and need to find my PAP. I don't have a used ball to look at to find it (been using house balls) so I'm really not sure how to go about finding it. I've googled aroung but ended up getting mixed up at one point or another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

And also, I'm assuming they mean your hook release as normal release correct?

Well I know exactly how I want it drilled, I found a pattern on Ebonite's site for the Blk Ice that I liked, with a 3 3/8" pin. As far as I understand it this is a fairly standard placement and was the "safe" drill for newbs like me

It is drilling pattern #1: http://www.ebonite.com/techcenter/drilling_instructions.php?title=Symmetric%20Core

What do I need to know/prepare for before I go into my pro shop looking like an idiot?

Kas, don't worry about it.    At this stage in your game it doesn't matter.     Just tell your pro shop guy to drill it safe     He'll probably put the pin at 1:30 to your grip center.  That'll be good

Agreed. Safest thing a pro shop can (and probably will do if you do not have any fingertip ball) is to drill the ball label, putting the center of gravity into the grip center and the pin almost anywhere towards your PAP what ever the ball' specs are. This is no drawback, since the result is a controllable ball reaction with a tamed down back end which will help you learn to control the ball with the new grip/release.

Your "real" PAP can be determined later, once you have a stable release with that new ball, e. g. like this: http://www.brunsnick.com/positive_axis_point.html

Sounds good.

I just like to do my homework and get the most out of my money. The pro shop at my alley is pretty good, by far the best of the 3 local alleys.

Thanks guys. I'll post the results as well as some pics as soon as my BI arrives. Cheers.
