Title: Looking for a ball with no or low hook.
Post by: asylum28au on February 07, 2015, 09:41:07 PM
Hi,
I have recently started to bowl in a casual league after about a 15 year layoff. I bowl straight and was looking to replace my plastic ball which is over 20 years old. Does anyone know which mid range low or no hook balls I should be looking at? The lanes are mid to oily.
Thanks.

Normally the next step up from plastic is urethane balls. In today's environment, they still hook very little compared to the standard, resin balls. If you already throw very little hook, a urethane will still do that for you, but will hit the pins with a little bit stronger carry power and are generally more durable than plastic balls.

FYI dull ones will tend to hook more than polished ones; solid ones will tend to hook more than pearls.

Some of them currently available are

These examples are just from one internet dealer. Although Buddies is a great dealer, your local pro shop should be able to order any one of these and even some older ones. our pro shop really needs to fit you properly, before anything else, of course.

God luck.

Plenty of plastic balls still available if you are wanting to keep the same reaction.

Your local pro shop may have a ball laying around (cheap) that might fit the bill.

When throwing it straight, I used to recommend something low end that would still grab the lane. Reason is that it will keep driving thru the pocket as opposed to skidding thru the pocket. If you're throwing it straight, then the cover is very important, imo.
