Looking for a new ball to replace my V2 Sweet
« on: September 19, 2006, 06:28:34 PM »
Hey all, I'm not quite a beginner but figured this would be the best place to put this post. I've been bowling for about a year with my Ebonite V2 Sweet that I bought used from the house and had re-drill. I'm a right hander and typically play the outside line.  I usually line up with my right foot on the middle dot of the lane or slightly a few boards to the right. My mark is the 2nd arrow in from the right and my V2 typically travels relatively straight down the outside (where my mark is) and hooks into the pocket in the backend.

With that style in mind, the V2 is okay but I have a hard time keeping consistent. As the lanes dry out or on bad weeks, I find the ball breaking sharply or overhooking and hits the head pin dead on or brooklyn more than the pocket. I can of course move but always moving around doesn't seem to be the right answer. Another the problem is it tends to roll out sometimes, leaving corner pins on good throws.

So I've decided to try a new ball if anyone can suggest one. I like the V2 a lot and would like to find something similar but fits my style more. I'd like something with a softer curve  and is made to travel down the lane better/further than the V2, and maybe even hit the pocket consistently hard?

Take a look at the Ice, CrossFire or WhirlWind. Not a lot to go on, but any one of those balls should be what you are looking for, in the Ebonite line.

Thanks for the suggestions. I read up on those balls and they do seem to fit my playing style a lot better. The Ice (according to the ratings and descriptions) matches perfectly but I'm leaning towards the CrossFire. So I'm hoping to get a little more information on it.

What's the best lane conditions for the Crossfire and most importantly how long does it roll. Comparing the V2 Sweet to the crossfire, with same lane conditions and drilling, which can carry a little further down the lane?

The CrossFire will go a bit longer, and as tylerwiles said, the blue Vibe ( Hammer) is close to the V2 Sweet. IMO, the WhirlWind is stronger than the Blue Vibe, but that's just My Opinion.
