Need Advice on Ball to get as a gift
« on: March 11, 2021, 12:59:06 PM »
Hey team, I'm looking to purchase a bowling ball for my husband for his upcoming birthday (will be 34) near the end of May. He was on a bowling team after high school and is still a pretty good bowler. He can make the ball curve pretty good. He would likely join a league if not for COVID and work things. I have zero knowledge of the game and have no idea what I need to look for in a ball.

I am wanting a custom ball that looks extra rad but I need to know what things I should pay attention to. I'm seeing things like, grit level, flare and hook potential, polish, high/mid/entry performance, finishes, lane condition, oil volume, plastic, plasma, polyester, resin, etc. WTF. Tips?

Also, please tell me the clear balls with the skull and rose in them are no good. I'm drawn to them but they can't be evenly weighted right? HELP! :) Looking to get one ordered very soon.

If you want a "bang for the buck" type of ball, look in to a Hustle PBR.  But honestly, just go to a local pro shop and talk to the guy that runs the shop.  They can spend the time you need to get a better understanding for what you need.

  • I have a name, therefore no preferred pronouns.

Those clear balls are cool, but only useful as a spare ball for an experienced bowler.

Get a gift certificate from the pro shop he goes to or find out if he were to get a bowling ball, what shop he would go to. This would assure that the ball he would be getting would suit his game as long as the pro shop goes through and watches him bowl and gets the necessary information needed to drill the ball.
