need help buying first ball
« on: July 26, 2005, 02:27:10 PM »
I'm a 16 year old guy.  I started bowling in a summer league this year, but now I want to become serious in time for the fall leagues.  My high game is 213, but using house balls, I am not very consistent.  I throw with a hook, so if anyone can help me out, I would like some suggestions one what a good hooking ball for me would be.  Thanks for any help.

Right. Even if it is repeated several times: try a Power Groove Pearl Reactive. These are pretty strong balls, best suited for medium-dry to medium conditions. I'd suggest a drliiling with the pin above the fingers, shlightly kicked out towards PAP - but better ask a pro shop for a proper drilling.

If you have a clean release or qwant to improve, these beauties will give you any hook you'd ask for. Carry is fine, too. I do not think that you'd get a better price/performance package these days.

In my opinion, take a look at these balls:

Columbia Super Trooper,  Storm Tropical Line, Hammer Vibe, Ebonite Cross Fire,
the Power Groove is another. If you look at the companies web sites, you can see what the ball is designed to do, what the company says it'll do ( take some with a grain of salt) and after you see the one or two you like, ask back here for people who have or have used one.

Then talk to your pro shop people, they will be able to suggest as well. The one thing I feel NO one does enough of ....research.

Hope this helps.
