Title: New to this.
Post by: mike525 on January 16, 2007, 12:34:13 PM
I just started bowling seriously this past month or so. I have a 16lb bruns. blazing inferno and do ok with it for a beginner. It was already drilled when I got it so it's not custom fit to my hand. I've been bowling anywhere from the 130's to the 170's. I only use two fingers(I know I'm supposed to use my thumb) and I put a lot of spin on the ball. I'm about to buy a lighter ball and just wondered where to begin. i hear good and bad about all of them. Also, what does it mean to "drain the oil" out of a ball? Thanks for any help!

Talk with a few league bowlers and find out who is the best pro shop in your town, go in tell them you are a newbie and see if they give you the time of day. If they do not want to spend time with you repeat this process until you get a pro shop worth there beans. Then proceed to throw a game with them watching you for a few shots have your hand fitted correctly, i recommend a relaxed fingertip grip versus stretched.

The buy proper ball cleaners like track power wash or ebonite energizer clean your ball after every set and i doubt you will need to hot water soak your ball for at least 100 games or more.

so draining the ball is putting it in hot water? I've bowled probably 40 games with it and havent cleaned it, doesnt hook near as much now.

make sure that you go and get that ball fitted for your hand,it makes all the difference when you're trying to bowl correctly.
the ball will feel lighter when you can actually use your thumb..
