New Ball
« on: February 25, 2008, 01:50:05 PM »
Okay So I want to get a new ball, but I cant decide on which to get. I throw on the lower side of revs, with medium speed, but I dont know the rest of my "stats". I currently have an Storm X-Factor, Brunswick TimeZone, and a Storm Sure Fire.

I used to average high 190's, low 200's but a year off and a different bowling alley later Im struggling with about a 165 average.

My Sure Fire is "allright" but the guy who drilled it, drilled it for a higher rev player and its just not working for me. I plan on getting it drilled but Im hoping to get it drilled by my old driller. So im waiting to go back home before that happens.

Anyways, Im looking for a ball that will work on a medium to heavy condition to heavy conditions. I was kinda hoping for a polished ball out of the box thats Solid Reactive.

The balls I was looking at are
Brunswick Ultra Zone (not quite what I was looking for b/c I have a pearl in my Sure Fire, but still thinking about it)
Morich Awsome Finish (The one I really want but have heard that it was pretty much a "dud" and didnt live up to being a true Medium-Heavy ball. Also read numerous times it was good for broking down conditions)
Gravity Shift(Again its a pearl and I have the sure fire, but I have had good luck with my X-Factor so willing to go storm again)
Cell(Not quite what I was looking for as not polished but I could always put a polish on it)
N'Sane LevRG (Same, no polish out of the box)

I also have looked at the Columbia Momentum and the Track Kinetic Energy along with a few others but I tryed to narrow the list down the best I could.

I should probably also let you guys know Im a lefty. I need something fairly strong because I have trouble getting stuff coming back when it gets to far out. Even when im playing straight up 5 board or something along those lines, ball still struggles to come back. Odd thing is other lefting play that line in my league and it works for them.

Thanks for the help, Tah161

As far as I know a solid is always sanded OOB (out of box).
Lately balls have been released with a coverstock titled "Hybrid". It is a combination of a solid and a pearl coverstock giving you the best of both worlds.
If you wanted something shiny that still has some traction in oil go with a "Particle Pearl" coverstock, like the original Shift.
Hope this helped

I would consider a FURY PEARL. It's a ball you can drill a little more aggressive and it will polish up real nice, if necessary. Something else I like is my ANGER. It comes matte but I have used mine polished and 500 grit. Very adjustable cover and hits like a loaded concrete truck.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Are the Morich Awsome Flip and the Roto-Grip Illusion solid that come polished in the box?

nsane is probably not the way to go. I have two that does great on PBA shots but if u just bowl a house league they tend to go too long but we bowl on a 40' THS and I bowl about 17-18 mph. So out of the box its a little too skidy but if you have a shorter THS it will work well. I don't have much sucess with them on a THS but the PBA league it does great on the longer patterns like the scorpion I shot a 241 first game with one of my Nsanes.

BTW I would say go with a LevRG with a bit mild of a layout and if you have to polish it but this ball, if layed out correctly, will be the best for any oil condition. I use it on a fresh THS all the way to a shark pattern. It even works on the bone dry lanes playing from about 20 out to the 5 and works quite well.

blah, thats what I meant the Awsome Finish. Was thinking of getting it but heard it wasnt a true medium heavy ball, and was better for broken down lanes.

thanks for the suggestions Nich. I think my house pattern is pretty long. My Xfactor dosent have the same snap as it did at my old house. I will look into the LevRG.

Thanks for the Suggestions guys. Does anyone have any input on the Ultra Zone, Gravity Shift, or Cell?

there have been a few polished solids OOB. Red Zone comes to mind.
