Title: Newbie needs a ball
Post by: george_in_CA on November 30, 2003, 07:44:27 AM
I've just started.  I bought a viz-a-ball thinking that I was more interested in having a cool design that smashing pins.  Well, 4 weeks later, I want performance.  Go figure.  I'm back in the market for a ball but lack the vocabulary to convey my tendencies and style.  Could anyone please tell me what I need to examine?  After I've gotten your advice, I'll take notes at the lanes and then head back here for some ball suggestions.  I'm hoping to get a ball that I can "grow" into, if there is such a thing.  I'm a right handed bowler, don't aim at arrows (doesn't mean anything to me at this point), stand one dot to the right, and move the ball from right to left.  Lots of times I Brooklyn, but not on purpose.

Many Thanks,
George

If there is a proshop in the bowling center you frequent, why dont you go in, talk to the people there and ask them for their advise?  They can watch you, tell you your style, relative ball-speed, and tell you what they recommend.  Hopefully they will recommend something in the midclass range but you can always come back here and report what you have learned and ask whether or not their recommendation makes sense.

george_in_CA -- Instead of buying a new ball, find a good coach and spend the money on lessons and practice.  Then, in about six months, talk to your coach about selecting a new ball that will fit your game.  --  JohnP
