Oiling?? How do you do it??
« on: September 09, 2004, 03:04:36 PM »
Well, I'm pretty new to bowling.  I just got a ebonite maxim, and I'm about to to purchase either a columbia reactive or particle.  But I was wondering if I should oil up the ball myself, or have them do it.  And if there is other things I need to take into consideration, please let me know.  Thank!!

What's oiling the ball?

An exhibition, sheer precision

This is the beginner's board guys.  Audio28, you don't oil the ball, actually, you're trying to keep oil out of the surface of the ball.  The lanes are oiled, and as the ball rolls on the lane, it picks up oil, and you will see those streaks on the ball after it comes back from the ball return.  A more correct question would be how to clean the ball (try to remove oil and dirt from the surface), and you can have that done at the pro shop, or you can do it by hand by buying some ball cleaner from your pro shop.  Other things that can be done to the ball are polishing or sanding, but I wouldn't worry about any of that just yet.  Feel free to post any more questions, and welcome to our great sport.

Thanks, and yes I'm a big time newbie.  I bowled recreationally, but now I want to get a little more serious.  I appreciate your help.
