Question about averages
« on: February 03, 2009, 10:45:24 AM »
I bowl as a sub in 2 leagues at the same alley.  One is a sanction league and the other non-sanctioned.  I have a 20 point average difference in the two leagues as kept by the secretary.

My question is:  do I use the USBC sanctioned average, the league average or the total average as kept by the alley's computer system?

Depends on who's asking for the average, but if you're bowling in a USBC-sanctioned tournament, the only average that matters is the one from the sanctioned league.  As far as the USBC is concerned, that other league is just (organized) open bowling.

There could be a tournament out there that asks for both sanctioned and unsanctioned averages, but I haven't heard of one.

If your buddy at work asks what you're averaging, tell him whatever you want to.  If your buddy is a lady with nice sweater kittens, I'd go with the more impressive, higher average.  If your buddy is your boss and he's talking about a "friendly" game after work, go with the lower one and let him win.

At 21 games the sanctioned league matters for your average below that and you will be screwed in alot of tournaments still with a scratch average.

So in short at 21 games it is official and under that not.

Sanction average is all you have to worry about. other average doesn mean anything but in that league.

non sanction is like open bowling or practice doesn't mean nothing
you don't practice and use that for averages.
