mid range ball vs performance ball
« on: February 02, 2005, 11:21:53 PM »
Can any kind soul out there help me with this ? Price a side, what are the differences between this two types of balls ? is it control or.....?
If my average is about 150, which type of ball is more suitable for me ? And any ball recommendation ? I am a stroker with average rev and speed.
Bowling lines are medium oil.
Thank you in advance......

Generally speaking most companys upper end equipment have their "latest greatest coverstock" and generally their latest core advance or a generally stronger more dynamic cores.  Also many times their lines right below the upper end have their former best coverstocks so many times your getting what is still a really great cover for a few dollars less.  I use the classic zone from brunswick as an example is it their second tier but shares coverstock with a current first tier ball the inferno.  Also the BVP line which is second tier has Pk18 which is a long proven very nice coverstock.  For all intensive purposes one could cover every oil conditon out there with some type of mid price/mid line ball from the variety of companys.  Top end balls can perform somewhat better, better hit maybe yes but for someone averaging 150 there is really no need to buy a top end ball unless you really want it.  Thats what it boils down to do you want that flashy looking high dolllar ball or do you want that nice mid range ball that won't hurt your wallet as bad but will perform just as good for you.  Most companys have 4 tiers as I like to call them. All one could need can be found in tier 1 through 3 but if you want those fancy tier 4 balls they are good also.

Brunswick
1 Power Grooves
2 BVP/Monster
3 Zone
4 Inferno
Storm has 5 actually
1 Hit line
2 Hot line
3 Flash Line
4 Power Line
5 Master line
Ebonite also with five
1 Tornado
2 Element Series
3 Showtime/Primetime/Gametime
4 V2 Line
5 Xcel Line

I have had a : Moonster Frenzy, Bruiser, and Nemesis and scored just as well as my Original Inferno, Raging Inferno, and Ultimate inferno.  I honestly can't tell that big of a difference, so I always recommend for people to get the mid-price balls.  If you decide to go with a mid-price ball, I personally think Brunswick offers you the best choices.

If you want the glitz and have money to burn, a high performance ball might be a choice. It is state of the art technology - at a price.

If you are 150 average, a current ball will surely improve your game through pin action. But this does NOT have to be top line ball. Normally, current balls have enough potential to fit your game at reasonable prices.

Try a mid-price ball first, or a used high-performance ball (but this can be risky).

At any rate, seek out advice from pro shop. Let your game be studied, or show your current ball and describe the lane condition you normaly play on. A serious pro will give you matching recommendations, and a proper drilling to your hand, style and lanes, too.

You didn't say how many balls you currently have. I would assume either one or maybe 2.
at a 150 average, without a lot of bowling balls already, a mid range (or even "low" end) will get you far more versatility. A lot of the new, high powered stuff is condition specific - and at a 150 average, you may not be aware of the differences in condition to change to the right equipment. (no offense meant whatsoever)

I'd highly recommend brunswick - either the power groove line or the bvp/monster line. Fantastic value.
