Title: Should I start to take bowling seriously?
Post by: Adamoaks2 on March 15, 2016, 04:35:46 PM
So my friends have been bowling for years. I was to busy working, helping with wrestling team and other activities to go. I didn't think it would be fun😬. I finally went and fell in love with the the competion. I'm naturally a two handed bowled. High speed and lots of rev. I guess this came from my submarine pitching in high school. Well my first game ever was 120. I've never really dipped to much lower than that since. I've been bowling about 3 months now. After about two weeks in bought a 15# warrior and saw my game start to really improve. My high score since is 256, with about four or five more 200+ games mixed in. I average 157 now. I'm not in a league because I'm still so new to the sport. . God has blessed me with a natural gift for athletics. But after two torn tendons in both ankles bowling is the easiest for me to continue to do at age 24😅😅. I'm wondering is this the norm or should I really invest serious time and effort into bowling??? Just looking for feedback on some of you guys who have dedicated a lot of time and money on your progression to compare myself to. Thank you in advance!

If you have fun and like doing it. Why not?

So? I work about 80 hours a week for 10 weeks of the year. Around 50 hours a week the rest of the year

Very few people should take bowling serious.  Do it for fun, and bowl a league for fun, and then it's all worth it.  "Serious" bowlers need to have fun at it too.

I'll put it this way. I got more serious into bowling because I liked it and wanted to get better. I have times where I get frustrated now because I take it so serious, but the whole reason why I started was because I liked it and had fun.

I still have fun. This weekend I'm gonna bowl a scotch doubles tournament with my fiancee because we want to have fun together. Don't forget the reason why you started bowling. Pretty much all of us started because it was fun

Taking bowling serious can be a double-edge sword.  Obv natural talent is what it is, but while the perfectionist drive and work to get better does produce results it can also take away from the fun.  This is a battle I've fought personally.  I'm incredibly brutally honest with myself which has led me to improve tremendously but that HAS to balance with why I'm there, b/c I love bowling.

If I get too serious it can hinder me.  If I get too lax that can hinder me.

Balance is a must!

If you enjoy it and want to get better I commend you.  But if you aren't able (for whatever reason) to put the work and time in, I don't think I would.  That is just me.

I agree.

I'm with GTGT on this. Sometimes i take it so serious I miss out on the fun I should be having. Although I have not found the balance point, it is essential when taking bowling more serious. Might even be better off not getting into that aspect.

This is exactly the answer I needed. Makes perfect sense! Thank you so much. I'm just going to let it be fun.
