Transition game
« on: October 11, 2003, 12:58:06 AM »
Hi all!

My weakest game in league is usually the 2nd game when my ball seems to be hooking more.  I usually start making small 1/2 to 1 board moves left which results in some splitting.  By the end of this game I usually find something that works and can play a good 3rd game.

I'm currently using a 13lb Vendetta Black Solid standing on 20 and laying down between 2nd and 3rd arrow with a small hook.  I have low revs and slower speed.

When the lanes start to hook more, what moves should I be making so that I can try and overcome this 2nd game rut?  I bowl on synthetic lanes.

Your advice would be appreciated.

It doesn't seem like you are making big enough moves.  Normally, I watch the 4 pin fall.  When it falls late its an indication that my line is drying up.  I'll go ahead and make a 2-1 move, 2 boards left with my feet, 1 board left with my target.  This lets me keep the same breakpoint.

Some things to watch though is where other people are playing the lane.  If they are playing inside your line, you may move right into the area they have already dried up.

I would recommend making larger initial adjustments in the 2d game.  Your small adjustments are resulting in splits anyhow, moving too much should at least leave a makeable spare like the rail or a 2-4-5.

LadyWannabe -- SrKegler has given you good advice.  A couple other thoughts, if this happens regularly, try making a move before you have to, so that you're hitting light in the pocket.  Then, when the change comes it should bring you right in.  If you do wait until the change has begun, another move to try is a 5 board left on the approach and 2 boards left at the arrows.  Hopefully, that will move you back into the oil and a little lighter than before the move.  --  JohnP
