Backswing Problem

Hello all, here goes another question that will have a simple answer.

I've noticed lately that, for whatever reason, at the top of my backswing my hand begins rotating around the ball so by the time it gets to the release my hand is completly on the side of the ball. This leads to an inconsistent release and a very low track.

I know it should be as simple as "keep your hand behind it" but no matter what I try it ends up happening. Does anyone know of any drills that could help me keep my hand still at the top of the swing?

practice, practice, and more practice... I had the same problem for most of the summer, but the last 2 weeks of summer I fixed it and I've been doing really well the first 4 weeks of fall

Yes when I practice I try to turn and hold my hand the opposite way until the release point. This will put a few more revs on the ball.

Have someone stand behind you with a bamboo stick. When your hand starts to turn in, have them smash it.

Or you can try to mentally overcome the problem by throwing a bunch of games straight with no attempt to hook to get a feel for what you need to do -- in my opinion it's more about rebooting your muscle memory.

Tommy Jones opens his hand outward. If you stand in place (don't need a ball in hand) and bring your arm back with your hand open away from you like the picture, and then swing it back down, you'll notice it wants to self-correct itself. Try giving it a shot.

Then gradually ease the hand into a stronger position to hook the ball more towards the bottom of the swing rather than the top.

I did this on my last league session. Worked great, I was having a little trouble with reaction because I have picked up my speed. Gives you more revs and you can feel your hand position better.(724 series)
