First game 300 to 279.
Part 1.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-lodT9V_14
Part 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOU5z2MENag
If you squint you can see speed and RPM numbers
Looks like Moor is low 300s. Belmonte is high 500s.
Also at the end of the match they show an overhead diagram of the line each bowler was taking and an overlay of the variance in their shot.
-
Holy crap! That is alot of strikes. I wonder if Belmonte is going to ever bowl in the PBA?

-
Not just 23 out of 24 strikes between the two in the first match (the Learn/Petraglia match from '96 was the same way and just as thrilling), Belmonte threw 23 out of 24 strikes in the two-game match. The second game he had the front 7 (?), left a 4-9 on the 8th ball and misses both. He still strikes out for 266.

learn jr's record wont be matched by anyone even close, that was just way too many strikes
btw, i got 15 of the world tenpin master videos, making a dvd soon
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment
When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

Here's a fun link from the barnes vs belmo match:

In four games, he struck 44 out of 48 times. His opponents struck 42 out of 48 times. Whenever I'm in a slump, I watch that show.

hahaha i loved that part, cuz before in the match against palermaa, he said he was going to leave the 2h style for osku, but i think after that he wanted to show little bit

Im surprised the cover on the ball wasn't peeling off onto the lanes after each shot. That is an enormous amount of revolutions. If im not mistaken he threw one ball with I think 585 revolutions on it. The pins don't have a prayer. Don't have to worry about to many corner pins with screaming messengers flying around. I don't even think Robert Smith puts that much zip on the ball

Back when PBA and ESPN were showing speed and RPM numbers in their telecast several bowlers showed to be in the 500+ RPM and 20+ MPH range. Smith was one, and this was when he was throwing Sarge Easter and not turning on it as much as he can. Jason Couch is another that I can remember seeing on these telecasts. Most of the pros were high 300s RPM and 18 to 19 MPH.
I'm trying to find some video of one of these. On Strikepass you can see the '02 Flagship Open right now. I watched it the other day and I remember from the first match, Healey vs. Smith, Healey was around 385/19 and Smith at 515/21. Healey was hitting the same RPM/Speed every shot and had something like the front 7, while Smith was lost and his RPMs were anywhere from 520 to 480.

Do they always only bowl on 1 lane?

Some of those international competitions are like that. The Weber Cup and Tenpin Masters that I've seen televised from the UK or Europe are always on one lane. The big competitions with dozens or hundreds of players are at a bowling center, but the small team competitions and telecasts are on one lane.

I sat and watched this on sky, and recorded it. It was a superb display by both bowlers. Jason hit the first 18 in a row had an open then struck out and Paul bowled well too...he's now been runner up for the last 3 years in this event. With regards to Jason's rev rate he threw quite a few shot where he was over 600+ and not just by 1 or 2 but in the 610's and this was measured on a C.A.T.'s machine.Osku also had similar rev's when he bowled. All in all it was a great competition to watch.
-
Can anybody read what their ball speed was? cheers.
-
Looks to me like 29 to 30 km/h for Moor. Works out to around 18 mph.
and 35 to 36 km/h for Belmonte, which would be around 22 mph.
-
There's a clip here showing Robert Smith hit 640 rpm:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ht8KS4S3WJY
Anyway, average speed and revs shown at the start of some of the WTM clips:
Belmonte, 34,6 km/h, 575 rpm
Moor, 29,8 km/h, 300 rpm
Palermaa, 31,2 km/h, 575 rpm
Barnes, 30,7 km/h, 400 rpm

Go to the third part (the second game). Last shot by Belmonte...one handed...and he still throws one hell of a ball.
Belmo = Burly Australian = Beast
Plus, he looks darn good on the BJI cover.
-
Did anyone notice the back curtian in pretty much touching the back pins !!!!!
With the back curtian right on the pins or touching them, you know theres going to be better carry.
I'm thinking the lanes and pit are setup for scores like that...

There just had to be someone to say something like that! And were you thinking, because it wasn't bowled in America by a PBA pro, it's not good!
OK, answer this question:-
If "the back curtian right on the pins or touching them", then how does the ball get off the pin deck? To the side?
Even if the match was a tie 300 - 300 someone will surely say that the conditions were fixed so that they could do that.
Is it that hard to say "Well bowled"!

Even if the lane setup would promote high scores, it is the same lane for both players in the tournament.
And this format is not easy. If you have seen other matches from it (previous years), you will find that in the earlier final stages some players really struggled with the single lane condition and how the lane changes, especially when both play a similar line.

Jock I don't care if the guys were American or not...I'm not sure how you got that outta what I said.

Are you blind ?...Look at the ball when as its going through the pins !
The ball hits the bottem part of the curtian BEFORE it even leaves the deck !
Can you not see that ?!?!?!...The black reflection after ever strike.
The curtian flap when the ball hits it...

Dizzy...I'm not talking about the whole tournament, just that lane for the TV match.
1.You got all the people there that came there to see strikes.
2.Partypoker.net does not want 150's bowled for a tourney their sponsering on TV.
3. Who the hell only bowls on 1 lane ?
I think you can agree that this lane was "fixed" a little for some higher scores.
Anybody got scores for the whole tourny ?

That one lane is used for the entire tournament. It's a 16 player invitational.

So your saying they never re-oil the lanes at all during the tournament ?
If that the same oil from the start of the match, I'm gonna have to call BS.
Theres no way BELMONTE could play that line with a Special Agent with 525rpms on the ball if that the same oil from the very start of the tournament.
Found this info on the website:
Each match will be played over two games with the bowler

No I'm just saying they used that same lane for every match of the tournament, since you commented that they might have increased scoring capabilities for the tv lane.
I have no idea how often they reoiled the lane.
Edited on 9/19/2007 6:20 AM
-
To settle any confusion they bowl all the games on the single lane and the lane is re-oiled after every match, all matches are bowled over two games with the highest aggregate score winning.
-
still.. even if they used another oiling on the final... both players made it there and so they only have to beat each other... so it is fair imo
the rounds before that there might be a more difficult pattern...still this tournament as far as I remember was a 1on1 and so both players had the same conditions.
And in the end it should be entertaining so there is a point in getting scores higher... though I find it more entertaining when splits are converted. My 0.02.

I'm not saying it wasnt a fair match, I'm just saying that the lane was a little "fixed" for some higher scores

There were both bowling on the same shot, same lanes ect..so its pretty fair. I
I was was just saying the they were wetup for higher socres.

Just a bit more info you guys.
In the final the scores (over two games) were:-
Jason Belmonte 566 - Paul Moor 524!!
Jason had a tournament average of 260.375!
Both players had to work hard to reach the title match as Moor defeated Biboy Rivera (Philippines), Alex Liew (Malaysia) and Remy Ong (Singapore), while Belmonte ousted Jens Nickel (Germany), Badr Al Sheikh (Saudi Arabia) and defending champion Chris Barnes (United States).
--------------------
I've upped my average, so up yours!

i disagree, the only factor that might give high score is the one lane format. the shot was actually pretty tough, from what i can see, theres not much backend, and if u let it go out, it wasnt commin back
the bowlers that u see are not just good bowlers, they are pretty much the number ones in their places. plus, the use brand new twisted pins, another factor that might prevent high scores

Well according to Twister pins website (http://"http://www.bowling-pin.com/content/scorability.htm"), I found this information:
"This means scoring levels remain the same and bowlers can expect the same pin action from day one"
So the new pins are not a factor.
Not saying these guys are not good, they bowl for a living, but nobody else sees the back curtian as problem in this match ?..lol
Just watch a few of the replays in slow-mo of the strikes, observe the carry....Look a little "much" ?

i remember that from the mouth of Chris Barnes and Linda Barnes that for twisted pins u have to hit them harder in order to carry. If im not wrong that should be from last year's competition when both of them had a chance to go to the booth to comment for certain match
the companies are all about marketing, i believe more in the pros that plays the game to make a living

302EFI Heres one thing youve gotta realize 2 of the 3 of the videos you posted are on AMF machines and the 3rd is on a brunswick A or A2 not sure the design of those machines from the GS-X Are 100% different the free hanging curtain absorbs energy more then the A2 or AMF

Why are some on here getting upset because someone pointed out the conditions were easy? I'm sorry but on tough patterns no one scores really high.
Still it's a great feat to shoot that many strikes even on an easy pattern. These guys are obviously very good bowlers.
I still wonder why Belmonte won't bowl in the PBA?
