I've improved, but what should I focus on now?
« on: November 01, 2007, 11:58:17 AM »
My average has gone up due to more consistency in my game and ball reaction.  Here is a video I took today of about a dozen shots, some good, some bad, some so so.  What are your thoughts?  If this was YOU bowling, what would you most want to fix?  I'm throwing the Kinetic, in case you're wondering.

lefty thats true. Do what feels comfortable and change a little at a time. I went through a recontruction of my game and finally I am feeling better. I just think by creating more of a fluid motion by your appraoch and freeing your armswing, you will be more speed and power

Thanks all, good sounding tips all around.

As far as that mini-step, yeah, I'm well aware of it.  The problem is I don't even realize I'm doing it, and it's pretty well ingrained.  If I try to stretch that step out, I feel ALL out of whack.  At some point I will tackle it, just not now.

i too do the small steps sometimes and i too go out of wack when i try to fix that. my opinion is to work on your legs. bowling isnt all arms, you can get more on the ball just by using your legs too. legs are your base. and i agree with BuzzsawCrazy to try to stay under the ball. i used to come over it as well and throw a straighter line. almost the same actually. once i stayed under the ball, i realized i got a better roll. everything you try wont feel right the first time is what i was always told.

i had to recontruct my game big time, so i know its a hard long process
just in my opinion because it looks like i was doing the same thing,  try takin 2 of those steps out of there, and come up from under the ball, usin your fingertips to create the lift and roll of the ball, but other then that  i  think you look good,  just keep at her, oh and try hitting your marks a little closer,  youll get there,

splender I was in Reno last year and got a lesson from a pro Mike Janasu and from what he told me was that a lower ball at the start means you have to use your muscles to start your swing which usually means you use your muscles to pull the ball through which will make it hard to hit the same target time and time again I think you should raise the ball up so that your forearm is level with the floor then push straight out on your second step (since you are a 5 stepper) and then let the ball swing your arm be very loose with your arm and grip this might even fix your feet on its own try fixing one thing at a time a couple of weeks of bad scores may make many other weeks of good scores.

if i were you, i would try to stay lower at the foul line. staying down on the shot will increase continuation and finish in the ball. also, try to stay more relaxed, to me you look kinda stiff.
hope this helps, best of luck.

**UPDATE**

Ok, so I went back over this post and tried to look at some things in practice today.  I was hoping to focus on one change to work on for awhile, then tweak another thing or two once that got ingrained.  The tough part I've found already is that my footwork problem is related directly to my swing, and to correct one I have to correct the other.  I believe I developed my wonky, mini third step because when I started out I had a tendency to hit the ball on my right leg in the backswing.  I learned to compensate by trying to clear that leg very quickly with a short step.  This is going to be tough to correct!!

from what i can see, u r playin pretty tight to the pocket and u cant miss right too much.

before i suggest anything, i would say, change ur line. that is, move further right about the intersection of oil and dry. you would proly have more room for error in that area.

hope it helps
