BVP Punisher
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
The Brunswick BVP™ and Monster™ ball lines are engineered to provide the widest available range of reactions at the popular moderate price point. This line-up allows any bowler to find the ball performance they’re looking for at a price they can afford.

Technology – Skid/Snap Power
The BVP Punisher combines the inverted bell core introduced in the BVP Nemesis and BVP Goliath with a new reactive coverstock, N’Control PowerBoost, to create a medium hook potential ball that delivers a very strong skid/snap arc characteristic.

The combination of the new N’Control PowerBoost coverstock with the medium-RG BVP inverted bell core creates more length in the oil than previous Brunswick balls with medium hook potentials. This exceptional length characteristic helps the Punisher save reaction for the back-end, allowing it to match up well on medium and drier fresh lane conditions. The Punisher is also an excellent go-to ball when the heads have broken down and higher hook potential balls are reacting too soon on the lane.

The new N’Control PowerBoost coverstock gives the Punisher strong back-end recovery with good entry angle into the pocket on medium volume patterns when other balls are arcing up too soon and are flat on the back-end. While most medium hook potential balls struggle when encountering carrydown, the Punisher bites through it and still delivers pin punishing power.

Reaction Characteristics
Out of the Box: With its High Gloss Polish finish the BVP Punisher will match up well on medium-dry to dry conditions.
When dulled: The BPV Punisher hooking action will increase and its arc will become more even, creating a better match-up for oily lane conditions and help blend the over/under reactions seen on wet/dry lane conditions.

Drilled with pin about 2 inches above my ring finger. Wieght is 15 lbs.

I got this ball for dry to medium conditions and to use on the 3rd game of my league when the lanes break down.  I was surprised that the ball actually hooks very well in medium conditions.  It has an incredible backend reaction and a huge snap into the pocket.  First game out of the box was a 223 with it and I really like it.  I definetly recommend this ball to anyone who wants a relatively inexpensive ball and is looking for a good backend reaction.

I drilled this ball with a 5" pin to PAP above my ring finger, 3/4" pos side no hole.

This ball surprised me with how well it read the midlane with the high RG drilling. I was expecting a dry lane ball with lots of skid/snap. The reaction is very predictable. My flare rings are about 1/4" apart in the oil. This ball can really open up a medium dry house shot. This is a perfect compliment to the Rampage(4.5" pin to PAP low pin) when it reads to early. A very good medium dry shot ball. Not for fried lanes. I think I am going to have to drill a Power Groove for dry.

Brunswick Most Valued Player
Lane Conditions: Dry
Typical Conditions: Variety of Shots
Type of Lane: Combination
What part of the lane did you play? Third Arrow
Did the ball track out? Normal
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball: Factory/Box
What grit was the surface of the ball? 220
Likes: This ball is wonderful on all types of lanes. My Punisher is drilled like a straight ball with a thumb slug and finger inserts. When given the right side rev the ball will hit the pocket with thunderous strikes. I can play anywhere on the lane and do great. Wonderful
Dislikes: Doesn't react in oily lanes

This ball is wonderful on all lane. When given the right amount of side rev and speed the ball will hit the pocket with thunderous strikes. I can play deep without worring that the ball will not come back. I can change my speed, holding positon, and type of release and make the ball work wonderfully. With the ball drilled straight the ball can be change to any bowlers style. On oily lanes the ball will spin in the idealistic direction but it will spin left, straight into the head pin in which it wasn't aimed at. Before I got the ball the guy who owned it before shot a 299 with it, but it was only used in the 9th and 10th frame.

first of all.. bvp stands for brunswick value performance.. just thought i'd correct that.
Pros: Excellent in mid to dry conditions. Good carry through, likes to keep the pins low. When the ball gets going there's no stopping it.. it seriously punishes the pins
Cons: A little bit of oil throws the ball out a LOT. Not a ball i would start out with, but only use when the lanes are broken down more.

This was my first purchase when i started bowling. It was good when it came right out of the box, especially because my average score jumped from 100 to 150, but as the title suggests, this ball is a value performance ball, meaning it's mid-range performance. The back end isn't bad for it's price, it has a pretty impressive angle, but when i started bowling with my other balls, this ball kind of started to get out of focus. I would use it only if the lanes are too dry for my high performance balls.

my arsenal
-bvp punisher (150 avg)
-hammer hawg wild (170 avg)
-hammer black widow (170 avg)
-columbia mr. hyde (160 avg)
-brunswick smoking inferno (190)

Drilled one of these up leverage pin and CG in a stack with a small, shallow weight hole directly on the axis point. The hole brought the final side weight back to 1/2 oz negative. When I have went back to negative on side weight in a leverage lay out, I have always gotten a controllable ball that usually only reacts to hand or grip pressure changes. I also left this in the OOB finish.

I threw this on a few different shots mostly on medium house shots that had broken down some. I also moved a few times to the outside dryer boards on the walls to experiment with playing direct. I could get the ball to the hole but carrying the corners was always a big question mark with this layout/surface. I also used this on some lower volume/shorter length sport patterns in practice. I could not get the ball to lay off in the back at all unless really forced. Then the ball would not hit for me because the ball was skidding and not reading the lane condition.

If I had it to do this one all over again, I would have not drilled the ball in such a strong position, because that eliminated me using it on really broken down conditions as the ball read the dry way too violently. I would have also experimented more with the surface to control the skid distance better. I have had 2 different balls with the NControl coverstock and have been too lazy to experiment with surface both times and paid for it because the balls were so skittish out of the box.

This was the first ball I bought when I got back into bowling following a 10 year break.  Given the last reactive balled I owned was  T2 Rhino Pro, I've got to say this thing was a bit of a disappointment.  It's dreadful in heavy oil, and gets worse once the lanes begin to break down, buring out and basically failing to react if it hits oil down the lane.  It's particularly bad on synthetic lanes.  On dry wood it's an absolute hoot, and believe me I'd pull it out of the bag without any hesitation.  However on anything else it barely reacts, doesn't carry and has practically nothing on it when it hits.  I have a 15 year old Columbia white dot plastic ball that hooks more and hits harder than this thing.  I haven't tried altering the coverstock or playing around with it as I've purchased better balls and can't really be bothered.

All in all, a great ball for hitting 10 pins and having a bit of a laugh on rundown wooden lanes.

I have another review of this ball. I was practicing today and I decided to use this ball for the 3rd game. Standing on 19 and right up 12 and right into the pocket. The thing I like about this ball is, I can play down and in, and i don't have to worry about the ball over reacting. 3rd game 225
This is one ball I feel comfortable playing down and in shot. Nice mid price ball and medium hook ball. This I will always keep in my bag for league.

Best light to dry ball thrown. Thank you Big B

Next week I will do my review on the red zone ball I just got drilled up.

I'm mostly a Storm guy, but somehow this ball makes it out of my bag.  The only other Brunswick ball I owned was a Monster Frenzy, so I bought this thinking it would be similar.  Very much like the old Frenzy only with a few more muscles.  Ball hates carrydown more than any ball I've every seen.  But, this ball works great on a fresh THS with good backends.  Goes long with a very nice, hard, roll toward the pins.  Very nicely priced for the bang you get out of it.

Hits harder than my Ultra Zone, nice hard move to the pocket. Does not like carry down though. Carry is very good on the right conditions. Very good ball for playing the outside line.
