Description: The Brunswick BVP™ series has been developed to provide the widest range of reactions available at the popular mid-price point. The BVP series provides any bowler the ball performance they’re looking for at a price they can afford.
The BVP Sidewinder features Brunswick’s first Solid / Pearl Hybrid - Low Load Particle coverstock. Known for mid-lane recovery with controlled and continuous breakpoints, the Brunswick low load particle ball reaction has been a favorite for many types of bowlers on both high scoring house shots and more demanding sport lane conditions. The Sidewinder’s version of the low load particle coverstock is an updated version of the same coverstock made popular by the Fuze® Eliminator, Danger Zone® Pro HPD and Navy Quantum®. The Sidewinder version is Solid / Pearl hybrid with a low load of traction increasing particles distributed in all colors.
The Sidewinder upgrades the performance of the BVP Ambush by using Brunswick’s new lower RG Rocket core system. The lower RG of the Rocket core helps the Sidewinder get into an earlier roll which helps create more mid-lane recovery on today’s high viscosity oils and hard synthetic lane surfaces.

I used a 6" from pap drilling with cg in the center of my palm.  This puts the pin close to your ball track. It gave me a ton of length and a strong finish on lighter oil or "house pattern". I left it box finish for right now, but may abralon it to 2000 before my next regional for a bit more predictability on heavier oil pattern.  Another great ball by Brunswick!!!   I will drill another one pin over fingers strong and post what it does.

5" Pin to PAP above ring finger, OOB finish, no hole(yet) flare rings are 1/8" apart. Brand new DBA lanes installed this summer.

With this layout the ball is very clean through the front just like you'd expect and has a controlled back end. I bowled on a 34' shot and the ball read the back end without the jerk of a pearl reactive. On the 42' shot I moved deep inside and played a fall back shot with success. The best reaction I had was on our THS because the volume is in the medium range. Outside 5 is OB so you have to play the track area. The ball is in it's element on a medium shot and reads the midlane well.

My Ambush was drilled similar and I have better carry with the Sidewinder. I like the reaction with the rocket core. For medium to dry this ball will work for you.

I drilled the Sidewinder test ball (thanks goes out to Brunswick) pin 4 3/4" from my PAP, 3 1/2" above the midline, and the cg at 45* from the pin/my PAP.

From early experiences, there is nothing but good things to say about this ball.  From the fresh house shot that I tried it on, to the broken down house shot with heavy carrydown, I was able to play a variety of angles with a minor hand position or speed adjustment.  On both patterns the ball got through clean and made a smooth and powerful move to the pocket.

Compared to my Punisher, the Sidewinder was 6 boards stronger with my feet.  Compared to my Rampage, the Sidewinder was only 2 boards stronger, but the ball motion was more in the middle 20 feet of the lane, and was much, much more predictable.  The new Sidewinder was not allergic to oil, like my Rampage was.

I think this cover matches up with the Rocket Core a million times better than with the Mammoth's high-load particle.

This is truly looking to be a great release from Brunswick, and I think for the price, it is one of the best values on the market.

For a wide variety of ball releases, and reactions
Sidewinder is the ball for the masses,
Brunswick’s  states
Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium Dry to Medium Oily
Out of the box finish,
I find the Sidewinder to hook:
The Side winder is predictability on heavier oil  and Medium Conditions
pattern as well.
Sidewinders cover stock and low load particle  provide the widest range of reactions provided for most bowler
The Best  B V P  Yet
The  B V P  Sidewinder features:
Brunswick’s first Solid / Pearl Hybrid - Low Load Particle cover stock.
Known for mid-lane recovery ,
Recovery is controlled and continuous  thru breakpoints,
As a Rule a  particle ball reaction has been a favorite for many types of bowlers on both high scoring house shots and more demanding sport lane conditions.
The lower RG with Rocket core helps the Sidewinder get into an earlier roll
(not Early) which helps create more mid-lane recovery on today’s high viscosity oils and hard  lane surfaces..
I won’t compare  the Sidewinder to other  B V P  because the only ball close to  it would be the  B V P  Wizard,
Impact is impressive
Sidewinder Black Solid / Green & White Pearl
In My opinion is different but fits in today color scheme
Any bowler looking for a price they can affordable with performance they're  in stock now.

BVP Sidewinder
Ball Specs
The ball being drilled was a 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.
Drilling: Pin 4" from PAP and Mb 4 1/2" from PAP. Pin Buffer 2" from V.A.L. Pin is above ring finger, 3" above grip midline. Weight Hole on my axis. Factory Polished.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 16 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 90 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"
Lane Condition and Pattern:
Bowlero Lanes, HPL 9000 Panel. Oil Pattern: Fairly Flat condition from edge board to edge board, semi clean backends.

Review:
I like the improved color of this ball over the Ambush. This ball does exactly what Brunswick set out to do, a particle ball that revs quick and has a nice strong but smooth movement to the pocket. The greatest thing about this ball is that you can start with this ball and stay with this ball through out the night, a great bench mark ball.
This ball is cleaner through the fronts and stronger on the backs over the Ambush, it reminds me more of the Fuze Eliminator. 1st three game with the ball I shot 675, pretty good for a mid priced particle ball.

This is one of those no brainer, everyone will love this ball, I think this will be one of the balls of the year for the value priced shopper.

Thanks for reading my review.

Drilled 4x3 with pin above fingers.  2000 abralon surface.

The ball path / breakpoint is a "fish hook" shape.  Excellent continuation right thru the pindeck.  Very controllable and versatile.  I think you could find mutiple uses for this ball with the right surface mods.

I think this ball will be excellent in carrydown -- I will know in a few weeks.

8-24-2007 - UPDATE -- this ball is the BOMB
nice and smooth and does a hell of a job smoothing out those nasty over/under house conditions.

I think without a doubt this ball will win the Ball of the Year award in it's catagory.

See stats for profile.

I drilled one of these to try out via the PBA offer.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP (just over the ring finger), 90* angle. No weight hole as I didn't want a lot of direction change downlane.

Surface: Box.

Purpose: To give myself a particle pearl to control on the back ends that I could use on medium distance/volume patterns. I like to use particle pearls to square the lane up more and slow the ball down off the friction in the back especially when I am getting over/undered to death.

Observations: I have used this on a couple of house patterns and also on Cheetah and Viper on old wood surfaces in a couple of regionals. On Cheetah and Viper, this ball is smooth on the back with little jerk. I can roll my hand up the back and get it to push thru the front and slightly lay off in the back. On house patterns, I can get this into the puddle and also away into the dry and get away with it quite a bit. Smooth look on the back and surprisingly good hitting power for a mid line release.

Final thoughts: I would like to throw this on a couple of more medium/longer PBA/tournament patterns to see what can this ball can do. I would imagine with a slight surface tweak, it could handle a little more volume. On house patterns, this is a great ball to control the over/under. It lets you get away with a lot of mistakes in release and launch angle. This one is a keeper Brunswick.

After thoughts: I finally got to use this on a longer pattern as our PBA league put down their version of the Shark. This center is Brunswick Pro Anvil Lane. The Sidewinder still made a nice smooth move. I did have to dial down my ball speed, but the ball worked great when the oil started to push towards the break point. This ball is a arsenal must for Brunswick lovers.

I laid mine out similar to bigmike, but put a hole on the PAP for even more control at the breakpoint.  Similar observations and expectations to Mike, but with this layout and my relatively low rev release the ball is not for longer oil or carrydown.  It works really well to square up a bit more than my other balls allow on house shots, and I think it will be really good on shorter flatter tournament patterns where I want to play out by the twig.  The ball is a bit like my Wizard, but I seem to see some impact from the stronger core.

After further experimentation, I decided to knock a little of the factory shine off the ball.  This was advertized as rough buff from the factory, but it was a little shinier than I expected.  As a result I just got a little to much squirt on the oil.  With more of a sheen I can play just inside the oil line on a house shot, but grab plenty of dry and still get a smooth reaction to the hole.

4 1/2" pin to PAP above ring finger, no balance hole, Out of Box Finish.

Tested the BVP Sidewinder on a 34 foot Typical House Shot.  This ball had a very smooth and forgiving reaction. I am a lower rev player with higher ball speed and was surprised by the strong midlane roll and good backend from this ball on the fresh lanes. Also, I did not notice much change in reaction when the oil started to carry down.

I believe this will be a great choice when the higher end reactive balls start to get over/under.

I recommend this ball for most bowlers who need equipment for everyday league shot and even medium tournament conditions.

Thanks to Rico @ Brunswick, This will definitely be part of my tournament arsenal.

After four years of dabbling with Storm, Dyno-thane, Ebonite, and Hammer, I decided to return to the big B.  Despite all the questions concerning the move to Mexico and quality control, I felt it was time to go back to something... shall we say, comfortable?  I used Brunswick equipment exclusively in the Nineties (the good ol' Rhino Pro, Quantum, and Zone days), and I wanted to see if the big B would still work for me.

The BVP Sidewinder is an absolutely amazing and underrated bowling ball.  My thanks go out to those at ballreviews.com who helped convince me to go back to a drilling that I have not used in nearly nine years:  namely the RICO layout!  I also want to thank bowlingball.com for this ball and Jeff Lizzi at Star Lanes in Sandusky, Ohio for punching the holes.  In addition to the RICO layout, I decided to use finger grips for the first time in nearly three years... mainly for comfort and flexibility on my release.

In one full league series with this ball, I rolled a 751 (235-259-257).  The oilier-than-normal condition suited this ball perfectly.  No over/under reaction was evident, even when the lanes transitioned from fresh to broken.  I could play more up-the-boards without the jump, squirt, or rollout.  In thirty-six frames, I rolled twenty-eight strikes (the other leaves were six 10-pins and two pocket 7-10 splits!).  I felt that I could have rolled a potential 800 series if I had a few more breaks, but nevertheless, I was extremely happy with my performance (my best in two years!).

A great ball for the buck!  Now I need to complement it so I can have a solid 1-2 punch for league play...

this ball is excellent... took me a while to adjust to this ball because the reaction is very different from my monster frenzy. mine is drilled with a fairly large hook, i play the lane a little straighter but it will still move enough for any1 on almost any lane condition. over the course of the season i have improved my average 20 pins sense i got this ball... GREAT BALL!!!

I have not been a Brunswick man for a while.  Their move to Mexico really torqued me.  Anyways picked one of these up on ebay for 40.00 including shipping.  Pin and CG both kicked out a couple inches. CG remaining on my span centerline pin just 3 or so inches above it.  My speed is generally 17-19 mph depending on which center I bowl in.  Not sure any of them are exact.  Nonetheless I have a higher ball speed and I like to throw the ball that means I loft the ball more consistently than I roll the ball.  Not an outrageous upward loft but a controlled outward loft.  Lofting the ball in this fashion certainly shortens the lane which is fine on drier/shorter patterns but on oilier conditions the troubles begin.

This is a really good ball its the kind you use if you want to show off that big hook.  it consistently hooks and its shape is a very strong arc motion that seems to start earlier in the pines or mid-lane.  The ball finishes strong in the hole there is no doubt about it.

Downside is you have to open-up the lanes a lot more than you need at times for this ball to go flush center. So the strikes will look awesome but extreme angles present a consistency challenge but heck we all like to use the Driver over the putter any day of the week, its fun!

This is one of a handful of balls that I have owned that does exactly what the mfg said plus its the right price. Even at 100.00 its a great ball!

I put my favorite drill on this.  5" pin to pap no hole.  Pin ends up over my middle finger, cg kicked but not enough for a hole(I'm a lefty)

In my opinion one of the most underrated balls I've ever thrown.  I got this for the purpose to even out the over/under I've been seeing and also to get something to give me and even roll.  This is exactly what it turned out to be.

I highly recommend this ball to anyone looking for something even rolling without that uncontrollable backend.

COMMENTS
I was completely surprised by this ball. My initial thinking was that the low load particle would provide a way to help smooth over under. The Sidewinder fits that bill quite well while still making an impressive move on the backend. I have been using it on a fresh house shot for a while now in a doubles league. The shot breaks down quite a bit and has a lot of over under. The Sidewinder allows me a margin of error with the over under that is not available with some of my other equipment, especially my pearls. The Sidewinder is very clean through the front even when the heads are burned up. One down side is that getting too far left can be problematic, the Sidewinder is not angular enough to allow the proper angle to the pocket. But, that is not what the ball is about. It is very much a ball that optimizes control and predictable ball motion.

I intend on trying it on some of the shorter PBA experience patterns. From what I've experienced with the reaction, this ball may be an ideal short battern ball especially when the shot starts to fry.

Rating: I give this ball an 8/10, provides a unique and controlable look. Everyone needs one in their bag.
