Bowler info:

Lefty
PAP 3 13/16 x 1 1/8 up
Speed Range - 17-20 mph @ pins
Rev Rate - 450+ est.

Layout:  45 x 4 3/4 x 45
Surface: box finish

I was able to use this ball today in league on a 40" THS. HPL Synthetic surface.

For me the C-System 3.5 revs earlier in the mid-lane then the C-System 2.5 and continues harder through the pin deck then the 2.5.

On this medium THS condition, the C-System 3.5 allowed me to move in and open up the lane.  From this line, my other equipment would not finish, but the 3.5 ripped through the rack.  Pin carry was incredible with this ball, which is a first for me in this house.

The C-System 3.5 will be a great addition to any arsenal.  It fits perfectly beftween my Siege and C-System 2.5.

Another winner from Brunswick available from your pro shop this month!

Ball Review: C System 3.5
Date: 01/11/10

Bowler Information:

Initial ball Speed: 16.5 - 17 mph
Tilt: 12 Degrees
Axis Rotation: 35 Degrees
Rev Rate: 300-350 RPMs

Coverstock - Chemical Friction Technology (CFT) 3.5
RG min - 2.520”
Differential - .050”

Drill Specs:
Pin to PAP - 4.5”
Degree From VAL: 35"
Vertical Pin Orientation: UP
Drill Angle - 55"

Surface:
Box 500/4000 Siaair Micropad

The C System 3.5 from Brunswick is quite simply a puzzle of scientific greatness.  This ball has the quickest response to friction of any Brunswick ball I have ever thrown or any ball I've ever thrown for that matter.  The quick friction response time is only a small part of what differentiates this ball from other balls on the market!  The C System 3.5 seems to be able to do what other quick response balls normally are not able to do, be predictable.  I can throw this ball out to the same area and no matter the condition of the backends it responds the same way every time.  This Brunswick release possesses predictability, a large amount of hook, and fantastic pin-crushing carry.  The C System 3.5 turns later than my Siege on our 40 foot house shot, and yet it covers about the same amount of lane.  It hooks around 5 boards more than my skid-flip Wild Thing, 3 boards more than my Evil Siege, and is more angular than all of the above.  This ball loves carrydown and seems to find a way to carry the backrow almost every time.  It responds well to changes in hand position and speed, while maintaining the same consistancy as the C System 2.5.  I used this ball for the majority of our three game league session with five-man teams this week.  I only had to move 4 and 3 the whole night!  That is simply not possible with any other ball in my bag.  The C System technology is the real deal.  With this ball you get angularity, consistancy, great carry, and plenty of hook!  It's time to go to your local proshop and get yah some "Science Friction"!

Well, I haven't gotten a lot of games on this ball.  I got it in December and all I knew about it was that it was supposed to hook more than the 2.5 because there really wasn't any information on it when I got it except for the ball sheet in the box.

I probably have about 6 games total on it (Didn't do much bowling over the holidays).  Threw a couple shots on the PBA World Championship Pattern (insignificant) and the rest on the PBA Shark pattern.  (My bro threw a few games on a house pattern and said the ball was really good.) I don't bowl on house patterns that much anymore so I can't comment.

The ball is drilled pin up about 4 1/2 inches over from my PAP with the mass bias at 55 degrees.  I have a C-System 2.5 and wanted this C-System drilled the same as my 2.5 so I would have an easy transition from one ball to the next.  I haven't manipulated the box finish yet which is 4000 grit micro pad. (Which is the same as the 2.5 out of the box, which I was surprised by.  In fact, I called my ball driller and was like...It's shiny?  And he said, Weird.  Cause neither of us could find any info on it.  And our inside Brunswick source only confirmed it hooked more than the 2.5, but he wasn't allowed to throw it till January.  Felt like we were dealing with a top secret product here.  Which is in some ways why I've waited a bit to publish a review on it)

Statistically, the 3.5 isn't substantially different from the 2.5.  And it probably wasn't intended to be.  So many times, you see a ball come out and the next version is a solid or a pearl which provides a substantially different reaction.  For example, the Siege at 1000 grit and the Evil Siege at 4000 grit.  The same difference could be achieved between the 2.5 and 3.5 if it was desired.  I was just surprised how similar these two balls are out of the box.

Comparably this is how they score.

2.5 = 155 out of 175 on hook potential.  105 out of 235 on length.  90 out of 100 on breakpoint shape.  .050 out of .060 on flare potential.  and 4.4 out of 10 on RG-Average.

3.5 = 170 out of 175 (+15) on hook potential.  100 out of 235 on Length (-5).  95 out of 100 (+5) on Breakpoint shape.  Same Flare potential and same RG average.

The differences amount to less than a 1% difference in reaction out of the box.

The 3.5 does make a more aggressive move visually than the 2.5 when you do have some dry boards to work with and the ball continues to move through the pocket when it hits the pins.  So you can see a difference between the two.  I certainly like the hitting power of these two balls and their reaction off the dry boards.  So that was definitely a positive.  It definitely reacts to friction as advertised.

In summary, I think I am most surprised by the similarities of the 2.5 and the 3.5.  But I think that is more my fault for anticipating a ball designed to cut through oil when for all intents and purposes, it appears to simply be a mildly stronger version of the 2.5.  The move these balls make on the lane off friction is really incredible though and if you don't have one or the other by now, get one.

Drilled the 3.5 65x5.5x45 (same layout as my original).  The 3.5 out of the box hooks a few feet earlier than the original, however is a good five to seven boards stronger down the lane.  This is the furthest to the left at the front of the lane, and furthest right my breakpoint has been in quite a while.  It is probably a little too much hook at the breakpoint on the fresh if you have a lot of hand, but it does read light to moderate carry down very well.

I drilled two of these. When I drilled them I wanted to have one a little smoother and one with more angle. Here's the outcome:

Ball 1
Drilled Rico to smooth it out. Well I got exactly that. I am enjoying this ball quite a bit so far. With this layout it allows me to throw it on THS and also sport shots. The ball has alot of midlane traction with a strong arc off the spot. This will be very usable on longer patterns when I need to keep angles tight. I am really enjoying the way this ball goes through the pins.

Ball 2
Drilled this one 70x5x40. I wanted to one to be more angular but not go sideways. I know that may sound odd from a Brunswick ball but even with this drilling this ball is quite angular. I wanted this one for the burn on the longer and heavier patterns and that is what I achieved. This one goes through the pins just as well.

In conclusion this ball hooks about 4-6 boards more than the 2.5 with more midlane and more motion down lane. I am simply amazed with this ball. If you are looking for a ball to get good midlane and good downlane motion look no further than the C System 3.5.

Layout 75x5x45
Pin above fingers
No X Hole
OOB Finish

On the house shot I compared this to the 2.5 and I had to move 7/3 left instantly. I was surprised by the quick response and the overall hook.

On the Shark this ball is money. I would say there will be a lot of pro's trying to get their hands on this ball the next time Shark rolls around. The carry is excellent because its angular. Carry down isn't an issue here, but when the heads and mids start to burn its time to put it away and ball down to the 2.5.

This layout is very versatile for me as well. The ball responds well to different hand positions.

Bowler Info:
400 RPM
16.5 MPH at the pins
PAP 4 5/8 x 1/8

Ball: C-System 3.5
Layout: 35° x 4-¼ in x 30°  X-hole is Gradient Line P3
Initial Surface Preparation: 4000 grit Siaair Micro pad

Observations:
OMG, messengers, pins flying all over the place. I haven’t seen a ball hit like this before. I was truly impressed with the carry I was getting with the 2.5 but this one is even better. Easy to get through the fronts with amazing mid lane and very strong off the spot.

Conclusions:
Brunswick has done it again. The diamond back was my favorite ball for the last couple months but that has certainly changed with the 3.5. Now this is #1 due to a couple important factors. First, for a ball that hooks a lot, I can hit the pocket from almost anywhere. Secondly, it carries the world. This ball really sends pins flying. I’ve posted a couple shots here

As with any ball, proper matching of the bowler, ball, layout and coverstock are crucial to success. Make sure you find a well educated pro shop technician to drill your next ball and your scores will increase immediately.

Well... needless to say this ball save me this past week in Dublin!

I honestly hadn't throw it much all week during qualifying until I made match play and was up against Shannon Pluhowsky. I was down in the match 0-3 and knew I had nothing to lose - so I switched to my pin above the ring finger 3.5, moved left to about 20 at the arrows and just trusted the ball.

This ball gave me the opportunity to get through the heads (they were fried) and then still store a lot of energy to create enough angle down the lane and enter the pins like a truck. Absolutely a must have for anyones game!

It was truly a savior!

The new ball in the C System line is the 3.5. The CFT 3.5 coverstock has a higher friction factor than the original CFT 2.5, which quickens the response time, improves down lane traction and increases the overall hook. The 3.5 utilizes Brunswick's I-Block Core a proven two-component asymmetrical core that enhances the 3.5 coverstock to create maximum forgiveness, strong entry angles along with versatile drilling layouts.

I drilled my 3.5 with a dual angle of 60x5 1/2x35 as I wanted to create more length than I did with my 2.5 (45x5x70), but what I got was very unexpected. My 3.5 has a very strong mid-lane roll but the unexpected part came in the back end. I never thought that I would have a Brunswick ball in my hand that responded quicker to friction than my 2.5. I WAS WRONG! The 3.5 is by far the strongest ball off the friction that I have thrown, but I could not help but notice how predictable its motion towards the pins was. I could get in deeper and keep the ball in on a good line to the pocket. The pin carry was amazing I had pins bouncing all over the pin deck knocking one another into the pit. I have been throwing Brunswick balls quite awhile but the C System line is one the best from a company that already produces the best equipment in the world. THANK YOU BRUNSWICK![

Ball: Brunswick C-(System) 3.5

Layout:

Pin 5” from PAP below fingers
45-degree locator line angle
(Dual-angle:  45 by 5” by 75)
XH on VAL, 1 1/2” below PAP, 7/8” by 2” deep

Initial Surface Preparation:

Box finish

Purpose:

To complement the Siege for oilier medium conditions that require a more dramatic change of direction at the break.

Why this ball?

The C-(System) 3.5 is intended to handle larger volumes of oil than the C-(System) 2.5, while still exhibiting a strong reaction to friction.

Observations:

The first time I used the C-(System) 3.5 was at a center with five-year-old Pro Anvilanes, for a practice session on a fresh house condition.  I threw the 3.5 side-by-side with its predecessor, the C-(System) 2.5.  I had the best results when I played four-and-one left with the 3.5 from where I was with the 2.5.  With the clean back ends, I had to use a steeper angle in front to compensate for the strength of the reaction down lane.  As the oil started to migrate down lane, I didn't quite have to give the ball as much room, so I was able to move my target inward a board and still get the ball to tip as it came off of the end of the pattern.

I also used the new C-(System) at the same center in a second-shift league.  I was able to get a serviceable reaction with this ball, and I saw the same strength off of friction as on the fresh condition.  The 3.5 had a tendency to be very sensitive to the frequent transition that we tend to see in this league, though, which meant that I had to make larger moves with my feet, and make them more often.  However, I had to get my feet pretty far to the left before I reached a point where the burn impacted the ability of the ball to recover and carry corners, and when that did happen, I was able to switch to the C-(System) 2.5 and get the extra energy retention that I needed to carry.

I’ve had the most success with the C-(System) 3.5 at a center with HPL in front and older wood in back, on a fresh house condition.  Now I'll grant that it doesn't take a great tactician to find the pocket on this condition at this center, but because of the way the back ends tend to tighten up over the course of a set, the pin carry can be tricky at times.  With the C-(S) 3.5, I was able to get my feet more to the left, and use the friction to the right and in back to get the ball to the pocket.  As the oil moved down the lane, all I had to do was to move the trajectory further left down the lane, and use the push to stop the ball at the pocket.

Conclusions:

If your experiences are anything like mine, the C-(System) 3.5 will force you to play further left than you would with your other equipment, but when you do send it, it won't die at the turn.  The 3.5 has the guts to make the corner, and to carry the corners.  And for me, because I'm already left of where I'd usually be on the fresh, I can stay with the C-(S) 3.5 longer than I typically could with a stronger ball.

The Siege is still my first choice for conditions that are heavier and flatter, or when there is a significant wet-dry from side to side, and I need to strike a balance between control and power.  However, the C-(System) 3.5 is particularly well suited for conditions with a decent amount of volume, but where I need to open up the drier boards to the outside.  The 3.5 has been a “home run” ball for me  it's the kind of ball that will let me keep up with the high scoring pace when I do get into a carry contest.  It moves pins around more than any ball I've ever thrown.

Unlike the C-(System) 2.5, the 3.5 likes oil in the front part of the lane, and will react well on front-to-back wet-dry conditions.  And when the 3.5 does start to burn up too quickly, I can switch to the 2.5 and not miss a beat.

Ball:  Brunswick C-System 3.5

Surface:  Saair Pad 4000 surface with Factory Finish Polish

Layout:  Dual Angle 70 x 5in x 45 pin over ring finger small weight hole

I chose to use a layout that would resemble a symetrical reaction due to my medium ball speed.  Also I chose to take the surface up to 4000 to increase the length and back end reaction.

THIS BALL IS SIMPLY AMAZING.  The motion produced with this ball in clean thru the fronts, strong off the spot and agressive power to the pin deck.  This ball hits hard.  It is very little deflection and definately no pins left on the pin deck.  Thank you to Billy O and all of the staff at Brunswick.  You have another winner with this ball.

Layout: 50* x 4 x 35*

Surface: 1000 grit sea of air

Rev rate: 320 rpm

This ball reminded me of the virtual gravity but much better. The virtual gravity was my favorite ball before I got the 3.5, and now there's no question about my favorite bowling ball. This ball has the perfect combination of reading the midlane and still having a strong backend reaction without rolling out. It absolutely carries the world, and sends pins flying everywhere! Another thing I love about this ball is it's one of those balls you can throw either dull or shiny, and its reaction is great either way. I would recommend this ball to any bowler who is looking to get a better reaction in heavier oil.

WOW is the first thing I have to say about the C 3.5, drilled mine up with a 40 x 4 x 25 and and could not miss. I am not on anyones staff so this ball standing out in my bag is huge as I drill up a new nugget every week and comment good or bad. I could play anywhere from 18 - 8 or right up 8 and just dominated all night without moving a board. Shot 774 with mine tonight and drilled another up for a friend of mine and he went 785 and both balls drilled identical but playing 2 different places on the lane and both were out of box with no surface prep. This ball just flat carries and corners like no other ball on the market.

Brunswick is back with this ball and the rest of the companies better stand up and take notice or they will soon be left behind. Great job Brunswick!!!

More back end than either Jigsaw, smoother mid lane roll than Virtual Gravity and more overall hook and carry than the Mutant Cell. If your spending tax money on a new ball do not over look this one.

Brunswick C (system)3.5
Ball spec's=
15.4 lbs.
2.4 oz. topweight
3 5/8" pin

Bowlers stats=
lefthanded,definite tweener, 16 mph speed
p.a.p. 4 1/2 over, 1/2" up

must say this ball is a definite eye-opener
just drilled it up and have only seen open play with it, tonite will be the first league session, so the review will be updated as more information about this ball is observed.

The drill pattern is pin above fingers centered (or 4 1/2"to pap), mb slightly left of thumb (1/2"), I have drilled the last 3 Brunswick pieces this way to test the strength, ball to ball (apples to apples) so that a specific drill pattern does not influence the way it rolls.

I have observed so far, easy thru the heads, a move at the backend I have not seen, with me throwing the shot, very angular and continuous in the pin deck,
throwing messengers and leaving the occasional
stone 8 or 9 pin, but seemed to carry out the corners with ease.

Those that are in the Detroit area will recognize these bowling centers were I have tested the 3.5 so far, the conditions are normal house shot oiling, but on 3 different surfaces, they are Five Star (Brunswick synthetics),Kingswood (AMF synthetics) and Sunnybrook (? wood lanes), had the best reaction on both synthetics, the 3.5 was just too strong at Sunnybrook.

grade= Brunswick c system 3.5= A plus and then some

Get the c 3.5 before your competition beats you with it.

Special thanks to Frank M @ Brunswick for getting this out to me.
