Description:
POWRKOIL™ 18 COVERSTOCK: PowrKoil 18 coverstock is a proven performer in the bowling industry. Aggressive in the oil and strong off the dry, PowrKoil 18 is a perennial favorite among all styles of bowlers. The Karma Blue / Green Pearl uses a pearlized version of PowrKoil 18 which provides more mid lane traction for a smooth continuous backend motion.
CORE: The Karma Blue / Green Pearl incorporates a familiar light bulb shape Medium RG Performance core that provides easy length through the heads, mid-lane stability while maintaining axis rotation for a strong continuous backend motion.
BALL MOTION: With its High Gloss box finish, the Karma Blue / Green Pearl will provide excellent length with a medium to quick response to friction at the breakpoint. The Karma Blue / Green Pearl is great ball for rev dominant and slower ball speed players on light oil conditions.
REACTION SETUP: The Karma can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for symmetric bowling balls.
LIGHTWEIGHT ENGINEERING: At Brunswick, the unique core shape of each individual ball is used for weights from 12 to 16 pounds. This approach to lightweight ball engineering provides bowlers with consistent ball reaction characteristics across this weight range.

COMMENTS

Likes: Brunswick does it again! This ball is essentially the remake of the Danger Zone, which was one of the most successful balls of all time, with a price at the opposite end of the spectrum! This ball pairs up the PowerKoil 18 coverstock with a light bulb core, which essentially fixes any problems that people have with the PowerKoil coverstock making a ball stand up too fast! This ball definitely gets down the lane and gets some serious backend for me! The first time I threw it, I had the biggest grin on my face, knowing that the Storm/Roto Grip bowlers no longer have the advantage of backend like the used to!

Dislikes:  How can you have any dislikes about a top of the line ball being sold at the Affordable Performance price level?

From what I have heard, this is the Danger Zone with new colors which I never had the original.  This is my first ball with the Rico drilling, and I am pleased with the results so far.  This ball has a very smooth overall arcing motion and doesn't jump off the spot when using it on the Kegel patterns.  The ball clears the heads and has a smooth transition at the breakpoint.  Another great performing ball in the affordable performance Series!

Left hander

High rev rate

Condition: THS

My Karma Solid came with a 3 inch pin with a top weight of about 3.  I drilled it with the pin right under my bridge with the cg kicked slightly but no need for an extra hole.  I normally use this drilling for when I want to stay as close to the friction as possible.  The Karma solid did not disappoint.  It got through the heads really clean and gave me strong controllable backend motion.  Originally I was a little concerned with the ball going a little crazy in the backend due to the shiny cover, but after throwing it just one game, there was no surface alterations was needed.  This is a very versatile ball that can be used on light and mostly medium volume patterns.

Tweener.  PAP 4 3/4 right, 5/8 up.  325 rpm, 17mph.

I laid out 2 karmas, the first one is 2.5" to my pap which puts it about an inch and a bit right of my ring finger.  The intent for this ball was to provide average length and an easy backend, to be used to provide control when playing left to right on house conditions with clean backends (I struggle on fresh).

On a variety of conditions on both wood and synthetic and everything from cheetah to the 45' WTBA Tokyo pattern, this ball has found a way to impress me.  It is very controllable, has rolled great at different surfaces (although I prefer it at 4k abralon in most conditions) and hits pretty well.  Its not a ball that turns heads due to its reaction or how amazingly hard it hits, but it is a ball that just constantly gets work done.  It keeps the pins low, provides more predictability than ANYTHING in my bag and serves as a good benchmark ball.  Anybody looking for a ball to help them create more control and consistency on a variety of conditions, or is looking to just carry 1 ball to league buy a solid karma and drill it like this.

The second one is drilled 5.5" to my pap, with the pin below my middle finger.  The intent was to match this ball up similar to a green/black avalanche I have with the same layout and is one of my favourite balls because it lets me really square up my angles and play much further right than anything else in my bag.  Well I was pleasantly surprised when this ball looked great for 50' and then went dead left at the backend.  Not what I was looking for at all so the decision was to either sand it down to burn off more energy early or to add a flare reducing xhole to calm out the reaction.  I sanded the Karma Solid to 2k and now it is a great option for medium conditions in which I can play more direct through the heads.  It does more hooking than I had expected, and is still a good 5 boards stronger than that green/black avalanche, but it definitely has a place in my bag and will be especially helpful in league.

With both the 2.5" and 5.5" layouts I have found the Karma Solid to be very controllable, and receptive to surface changes.  Its not a ball that is going to provide you with an average hook potential and at the appropriate surface, a controllable arcy backend.  The Karma Solid is your answer for medium oiled lanes and is effective on both house and sport conditions.  Don't be afraid to play with the surface of the ball in order to meet your needs.  If you want to hook the entire lane and go sideways through the front there are a plethora of balls on the market to let you do that.  This ball will allow you to parallel the lane a little more and provide both control and versatility at an affordable price.  A MUST HAVE for anybody loving that traditional Brunswick reaction!

Likes: Easy to read. Gets thru the heads with ease! Nice smooth reaction at break point that's more of a strong arc with great carry!

Dislikes: I only bought one!!!!

I used the dual angle layout of 25deg x 5-3/4" x 75deg, which placed the pin under my middle finger and the cg close to my pap with a weight hole in the P-3 location. The ball is really smooth and picks up in the midlane really nice with a strong arc move at the break point! I have a Wicked Siege drill pin down that rolls similar, but a bit stronger overall. The Karma solid is a great first ball out of the bag to get a read of the lanes. This is a great release by Brunswick for bowler's looking for performance without the higher price tag! Just my $.02, Bruce

Likes: Decent length with stronger than expected back end.  Drilled with pin down slightly below ring finger out 1" and stacked.  More ball than I anticipated.  Excellent piece at an affordable price.  Smooth rolling solid that continues through the pins beautifully.  Good bang for the buck.

Brunswick Bowling Ball Review

My Information

               A. Name:Richard D. VanScoyk

B. Average: 227 (House Shot)

               C. Honor Scores: 15 – 300’s, 9 – 800’s

               D. Ball Speed: 17.5 – 18.0 mph

               E. Revolution Rate: 325 rpm

General Ball Information

         F. Name of Bowling Ball: Karma Solid

         G. Weight of Bowling Ball: 15 lbs.

         H. Layout of bowling Ball: Pin up and 45 degrees

         I. How many games do I have on this ball? 20 games

         J. Favorite Surface on this bowling ball: out of box

         K. Description of ball motion: Smooth NIKE sign

         L. Overall Hook (1 none – 10 lots): 7.7

         M. Versatility (1worst - 10best): 6.2

         N. Overall Rate (1worst - 10best): 7.5

O. Why do I recommend buying this bowling ball? I would recommend this ball to a beginning

bowler that is in the need of hook. This ball is at a very affordable price. If you were to

compare hook and price, then this is the best ball for the money.

Special Information

               P. How does this ball compare to another ball? I would compare this ball to my C-Systems 3.5.

The overall hook of this ball and the 3.5 is similar. Also, the motion to the pocket is

extremely comparable with these balls. The Karma makes an aggressive move towards

the pockets as long as friction is not reached until down lane like my Nexxus.

               Q. What are the strengths of this bowling ball? Reaction shape and overall hook

               R. What are the weaknesses of this bowling ball? Carry and Versatility

               S. Oil Patterns used on:House Shot

               T. How does this ball react on house patterns? This ball has a good reaction on fresh house

patterns. I have struggled with this ball during breakdown. However, if I do not see

much breakdown, I can strike for days.

U. How does this ball react during transition? This ball has challenged me to make hand position

Changes, so that the angle to the pockets stays correct to save energy to carry the

ten pin.

V. When do I find myself using this ball? Medium oiled house shots on non-wood lanes

W. Additional Comments: This ball has been a great addition to my arsenal, because the ball

does not skid-flip. When I have over-under with my Nexxus ball, I can switch to this ball.

My Karma allows me to keep a similar line (like a 3 -2 left) and continue striking.

Volume: med hvy

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):  2nd shift THS on old wood and first shift THS on old wood

Hand: Left
Speed:  17-18
Rev:  300
Axis: 30*

PAP:  5 left 3/4 up

Style:  Tweener
Preferred zone:  outside 10

COMMENTS

Likes:  Smooth with an early read and rolls quick and hard.  Easy to control on wed/dry.

Dislikes:  Can show over/under where there is less friction.  Adjust surface accordingly.

I loved the Danger Zone, and this ball gives me that same look.  Rolly and smooth of the spot with plenty of hitting power.  I have this ball drilled 55x5x30 no hole, surface at 1k/polish.  I use this ball as a benchmark in second shift leagues or where there is a lot of friction.  It allows me to stay outside without getting jumpy.  Smooth and hard hitting, just like the Danger Zone was for me :)

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

Bowler: Tweener, 16.5 mph, medium revs, 215 average, 20+ years experience

COMMENTS

Likes: Decent amount of length with a strong backend. Very versatile ball for a wide range of oil volumes (medium-dry to medium-heavy) for me and is my benchmark ball.

Dislikes: That this ball is discontinued!

I always wanted to get my hands on an original Brunswick Danger Zone but couldn't since the production days of it have been long gone. I just had to try this out and I couldn't believe this ball was sold at a low price. I can definitely see why this core/coverstock combination is legendary.

I had this drilled with the pin above the ring finger and the CG kicked out a little bit. It truly is "aggressive in the oil and strong off the dry" as advertised and it matches up very well with various lane conditions. This is my benchmark ball and I usually end up successfully using this for both fresh and broken down THS.

I can't believe I got this for $75 NIB on ebay...this is discontinued?! What a steal...I might as well buy a few more and keep in stock for the future.
